India is well known by the World for its age old rich culture and various diversities. It is a land that has diversity not only in terms of topography but also in terms of culture, language and religion. Despite of several diversities that exist in this sub-continent, it remains united as one nation. Every language, every culture and every religion is given equal importance and are equally respected by Indians. It is a matter of pride that India is a secular nation and it is not solely a Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist or a Christian Nation. India is the only land in the World where people of 8 different religions reside together and stay united as brothers. In this land of diversity, very religious festival is celebrated in this nation with same zest.

Indian culture plays a major role that every Indian respects every religion. India was once a Hindu nation, however, owing to the various reasons, people got converted to other religions but by heart and soul they all remained as Indians. Despite people got converted to other religions, they always remained united and respected the religions but during the partition of India and Pakistan, there was a lot of communal riots and to avert the danger of communalism, Secularism was incorporated in the Constitution of India. The Indian Constitution, which is the largest written Constitution in the World official declared India as a Secular state and the word secular was inserted in the Preamble of the Constitution in the 42nd Amendment in 1976. Being a secular nation means there is no one official religion and every religion is equally respected and most importantly, it entails tolerance towards every religion. Furthermore, Article 15 of the Constitution of India provides for equality of religion. This article prohibits discrimination on the grounds of religion, sex, race, caste and place of birth. It provides equal rights to people of every religion to maintain communal harmony in the nation.

Today, a few Indian Political parties are trying their best to proliferate the saga of Secularism in the facade of fundamentalism. Nevertheless, Secularism is important for a nation like India that has so many religion and communalism is way too capable of restricting the development and progress of the nation. However, maintaining Secularism is not an easy task in such a vast nation like India that has so many religions. Implementing Secularism is important and imposing it by the virtue of law is not a good idea. In order to bring about religious tolerance among Proud Indians, it is essential to shape every Indian since childhood with the ability to respect and tolerate every religion and by doing this, India can be a successful Secular nation. It is important to respect every religion and inculcate tolerance towards it in order to build a better nation. To respect every religion, it is essential to understand that there is just One God with different names and if this feeling is inculcated within every human being, the respect towards every religion will come from within and no law will be every required. Furthermore, with this feeling, communalism can be uprooted from our nation completely.

India is a Secular nation and Every Indian is proud to be a part of a Secular nation - INDIA that houses all great religions namely, Hinduism, Islam , Christianity, Sikhism , Jainism , Buddhism , Zoroastrianism and Judaism etc. Although, there have been a few instances of some issues because of Politics and Extremists but we proud Indians respect all religions. We Proud Indians elebrate every religious festival with equal enthusiasm and live as brothers and this is the fact that distinguishes India from other nations of the World.

    I love my India.

Precisely! Its an honor to be a part of such a large, secular country with such extensive diversity in terms of religions, castes and races. Yet we stand together as Indians. Although in the past, people were not so educated, they were better united than we stand now. However earlier, people used to get swayed by politics easily, but people have become much more sensible to understand that politicians divide and rule people. Without any prejudice to our fellow Indian, we should continue to respect our nation and take the legacy forward without any corruption.
