Punjab is a rich and beautiful state with most of the revenue coming from the green fields. It is one of the first states where the HYV seeds were treated for the first time and green revolution started. Since then, there has been no looking back. The political scenario too is a stable one with very little bad reviews flowing in the media. However in the recent years two plans could set the defining years of the Punjab economy. First thing that can make Punjab richer is the food procurement policy of the government. If the government decides to higher the price incentives, the stocks of the farms will also grow and so will the wealth of the country. The second thing that the government is deciding is weather to kick off the power reforms that it has planned. This will include the end of free power provision for the farmers. However the former will be able to balance it more and the farmers will be at a profit. The Punjab politics greatly revolves around the needs of the rich farmers. It may be said that the government doesn’t dare question them. The food security debate has been taken up in the cabinet on behest of Sonia Gandhi, the Congress President. However the lines that have been though upon are only to increase the incentive from 25 quintals per house to 35 quintals. This farmer lobby has been in practice for long. If we go onto see the issues of the small petty farmers, they really are at a loss, but there are not many that have small plots of land. In Punjab, every farmer is rich and is like any urban businessman. While it could be understood that there is a change around the corners, it is a surety that it will only better the situation.
punjab is the hub of agriculture and the government has to take care of meeting the demands of farmers. however traditionally the Akali dal and the Congress rule the state and there seems not much indifferences between the people of the state and the government. the government is concentrating on food security issues and this is what keeping punjab high across the country.
