Nagaland government insurgency : The Naga insurgency has toppled the once stable government in the north eastern states. The trends continued for the whole of 2009 and the months we have seen of 2010. The problem started in the year 2001 and has been on the rising side of the graph. In 2008 there were 201 fatalities and ranked the maximum among all the years. However it did fall to 19 in the succeeding year. The main cause of the fatalities was the conflict between the various factions of militants. Nagaland is ranked third among the north eastern states of India that faces this violence. Only Manipur and Assam have worse situation.

The year 2009 saw 94 insurgency attacks and as we already cost the lives of 19. Insurgents contribute to over 59% of all fatalities in the state mainly ascribed to the internecine clashes. Six of the fatalities belonged to the NSCN-K. The insurgency attacks are encouraged by the church led Naga Reconciliation Forum. This has representation of militant outfits and over 42 other community minority groups. The long wars have led to the Union Government to declare ceasefire and try peace talks. About 1040 individuals have been reported dead in 2009 alone due to factional attacks. However no solution seems to crop up. Armed cadre enter safe within the civilian perimeter and spread devastation staying in the middle of the population.

The union government and home minister P. Chidambaram has tried to come to a direct agreement and has not provided support to the militant outfit. The Nagaland defense department boasts 475 policemen for every 100,000 population but this doesn’t seem to be enough. The attackers are master of stealth and attack from the heart of the city where rapid counterattack can take the life of many more. Thus there is some serious discussion that the government needs to do.

the state is facing violence from the naga insurgecy attacks and the situation remains grim from long time. this is due to indifferences between the minority group living in the province and the Union government leading the people. this will continue to take place as the disputes do not seem to be resolved. government needs to talk on such matters to come to a resolution.
