Mizoram’s political history date back to the 1950’s when the people in this part of the hill wanted a separate state for themselves. After over three decades of continuous revolution did the central government come into terms with the demands and the Mizo National Front and Union Cabinet sign an agreement. It was on 20th February, 86, that the state achieved a permanent status.

The benefits of the Mizo movement were reaped by the Congress. The MNF got the attention and sympathies of the people and it gathered all the Mizo members to form the district council. In April 1970, it chartered a ‘political statement’ with the Mizo leaders by the side. It prevented any suspicion of unfair intimidation and practices that the Mizo complained of before.

The Mizo gained ground in the recollected and regrouped villages while the Congress concentrated itself towards the remote areas where struggle still existed. The Assam Provincial Committee was not encouraged to leave the Mizo grounds while the Mizo themselves were stern on their grounds. In the next couple of years the council toppled several times but a coalition government was formed with Ch. Chhunga representing the Mizo people. On the 14th of April, a resolution was passed that demanded a proper state within the Indian boundaries that will include the controversial Mizo lands.

The Pataskar commission was the one that floated the first idea of a separate state. In July 1971, the Union Government of India agreed to the proposal and the district council was happy. However the Mizo union and the students union demonstrated against the resolution but there was nothing that miss Indira Gandhi could do now that the bill had been passed. Full statehood had been granted and after years of peace talks and resolution did both the parties come to terms

in the present government of mizoram,Shri Lt.Gen.MM Lakhera is the Honorable Governor. and the honorable Chief minister of the northeastern state of mizoram is Shri Zoramthanga. the state is yet juvenile and still needs to mark its identity in the country by marking its strong presence. the internal affairs of the state are also not so easy going and the state is seeing no substantial growth.
