Preparation for the Bihar assembly polls to be held in October, 2010 is in full force with Bihar political parties. The RJD (Rastria Janata Dal) in collaboration with the LJP Lok Jana Shakti Party) have called Bihar rallies to organize and address the masses. JD(U) (Janata Dal, United) which is in the current leadership have called Mahadalit rallies on the 21st of February this year. The response was overwhelming which showed that they still had the potential. The speakers included Uday Narayan Chowdhury, the Bihar legislative Assembly speaker. Ram Bilas Paswan of the LJP too organized a rally on the 18th of March this year at Patna. Rahul Gandhi, MP and Congress General Secy, too conducted a two day Bihar tour on the first two days of February. This generated a wave of favour for the Congress. A CPI supported bandh too was called by the RJD in protest of the inflating commodity prices. The bandh targeted the Congress led UPA government and the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) government in Bihar. The CPI and LJP are likely to form an alliance government in Bihar with the RJD led by Lalu Prasad Yadav. However congress leader Rahul Gandhi commented that the poor performance of his party in past elections was due to their support for the RJD. At a Champaran meeting he addressed the youth to come forward and take matters into their hands. Meanwhile, the general secy of the CPI, AB Bardhan indicated that there could be third front governance after the assembly polls. Trinamul congress too is geared up to contest the elections in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and the votes it will win will go in support of the Congress. With only a couple of months left for the elections, the tension in the state can be easily understood.
