Ganga is the sacred river of India, and it has got a religious significance for the Indians. Since we believe it to be holy we Indians truly worship and regard it like a Mother. But at the same time the way we are paying our regard to the mother cannot seriously be neglected. Because we have neglected to maintain the purity of it, many fingers are already raised upon us that is this the way we treat our sacred heritage? The way river Ganga or Mother Ganga has been treated in the past recent years is quite shameful on the part of the human beings. Ganga has become a spot of organic pollution because of the various ritual practices performed in its water. Every day there are a number of funeral/cremation rituals are performed, the ashes of dead bodies are offered into the holy water of Ganga, then there are puja-paath done on the shores f Ganga with the offering of flowers, dhoop-agarbattis.

The religious ethos of the Indians is so much empowering that they have simply ignored the increase level of water pollution that has been raised to 3000 times on the fixed level by WHO. People are blindly continuing polluting the water and contrary to this they are freely using this polluted water for many of their uses. Numerous of devotees are taking water bottles to fill them with the holy water to keep those in their homes. But the people are not at all ready to accept that; the water is highly contaminated and must not be polluted further. Here is the need to draw the line between blind beliefs and religious worthiness! People need to understand that religious practices should not hamper the sacredness of heritage, that has to be maintained in all the terms.
