India and china are new emerging global powers. We are making our presence felt world wide in various fields. But when it comes to sports, we are nowhere near any of our economic rivals. What do you think are the reasons? Are we indians physically weaker than other races or our governmental system is to be blamed?

What can we do to get better results and equalise UK, America and China in next olympics? Or is it just a dream which is not going to come true and we shouldn't even try?

Its probably lack of a sporting culture in India which is the main reason. We see that parents want their kids to become MBAs and Engineers and Docs. Common refrain to kids is "saara din khel kood, padhai pe dhyaan do".

Also the only sport patronized is cricket. Other sports have suffered. Private initiation will help. The government cant be everywhere. Things are getting better as we have seen in the last year. Besides sports is becoming a good money earner, so parents will think it will be a good career option for their kids and encourage them to take up one sport or the other.
