CAPT. ANUJ NAYYAR (17 Jat Regiment)-

    CHILDHOOD-

He was born and grew up in Delhi, India in a Hindu family. His father, S.K. Nayyar, worked as a visiting professor in Delhi School of Economics while his mother, Meena Nayyar, worked for the South Campus library of Delhi University.
Capt. Nayyar received his high-school education from Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi (1993 batch). He was a bright student who consistently performed well in academics and sports. He graduated from the National Defence Academy (90th course, Echo Squadron) and later was commissioned into the 17th Battalion Jat Regiment in June 1997 from the Indian Military Academy (100 Reg).

“His Maths teacher used to call him ‘a bundle of energy’ as he was always on the run. He was the most notorious student in his class. Even though he was a brilliant child, tired of his regular mischief, his teacher had once written on the notice board, ‘I want Anuj - dead or alive’!”
“He was the best volleyball player in his school. We used to tell him not to play because he ruined his shirt. From then on, he used to take off his shirt and play. Then we told him, his vest was getting dirty so he should not play the game. But then, he took off his vest too and played! With a mind like his, how could one stop him from doing what he wanted to, for the country".

    STRUGGLE-
In 1999, the Indian Army detected a massive infiltration by Pakistani military and paramilitary forces in the Kargil region of Jammu and Kashmir. The army quickly mobilized its forces to drive out the Pakistani infiltrators from Indian territory. Capt. Nayyar, a junior commander in the 17 Jat Regiment, was one of the more than 500,000 Indian troops deployed in the region. His first major operation involved securing Pt. 4875, also known as Pimple II, a strategic mountain peak on the western side of Tiger Hill which was occupied by Pakistani infiltrators.
Due to its strategic location, securing Pt. 4875 was a top priority for the Indian Army. The peak, which stood at 15,990 feet above sea level, had extremely steep slopes and capturing the peak without aerial support was considered near impossible. In a last-ditch attempt, Nayyar's Charlie Company decided to secure the peak without waiting for any aerial support on July 6, 1999.

    (OPERATION)
During the initial phase of assault on Pt. 4875, the Company Commander of the platoon was injured. After the initial setback, the assault team split into two groups, one led by Captain Vikram Batra and other by Capt. Nayyar. The Pakistani infiltrators had constructed several bunkers on Pt. 4875. Nayyar's company, which consisted of 7 personnel, located 4 enemy bunkers. The company began to ascend Pt. 4875 during which it came under heavy artillery and mortar fire from Pakistani infiltrators. However, the team counter-attacked, which also included hand-to-hand combat, forcing the Pakistani soldiers to retreat. During the battle, Nayyar killed 9 Pakistani soldiers and destroyed three medium machine gun bunkers.
Under Captain Nayyar's leadership, the company had successfully cleared three of the four bunkers and began its assault on the last remaining bunker. While clearing the fourth bunker, an enemy rocket propelled grenade fell directly on Nayyar. Despite being grievously injured, Nayyar continued to lead the remaining men in his company. He succumbed to his injuries but not before clearing the last bunker on Pt. 4875.
None of the soldiers from Nayyar's team of the Charlie Company survived the battle. Two days after Pt. 4875 was secured, it was counter-attacked by Pakistani infiltrators during which the second team of the Charlie Company, led by Captain Batra, successfully defended the peak. During the entire battle for the Pimple complex area, 46 regular members of Pakistani Army, an unknown number of Pakistani paramilitary troopers and militants, and 11 Indian Army men, including Captain Nayyar and Captain Batra, were killed. The securing of the Pimple Complex area paved the way for the recapture of Tiger Hill which finally forced Pakistan to retreat its forces to pre-conflict positions.

    FAMILY'S LIFE AFTER HIM-

"After the blazing summer of 1999, Delhi was bathing in the respite provided by the monsoons in July. I was working on a campaign idea with my art partner when I got a call from my mom. She sounded anxious, but managed to tell me that Anuj -- he was one of my pals and lived near my house -- had been killed in Kargil.

I was stunned. I kept the phone down but her words kept echoing in my ears. Till then, I had been reading the newspapers and watching the news bulletins on television for updates on the war-like situation at our borders. Everyday, I'd discuss what was happening at Kargil with my colleagues, friends and family. The visuals of the dead bodies of our soldiers being brought back in coffins evoked a feeling of sadness.

But, as I kept the phone down that day, I was devastated. The reality of what was happening at Kargil hit me for the first time. When someone you know really well dies that way, the shock can be immense. I broke down and left for home immediately.
Anuj and I were friends since our school days. We continued to remain in touch till he joined the National Defence Academy. After that, we'd bump into each other on those rare occasions when he was back in town on a vacation.

In August of 1999, Anuj was planning to get engaged to his childhood sweetheart. His dad had even brought him a new car and was planning to gift it to him on the occasion.

My mom insisted I should go and meet his parents but memories of Anuj filled my mind and I just could not muster up the courage to do so. "

These were the words and twings of anuj nayyar's girfriend whe she got the news of his sacrifice.

Today, Professor Nayyar( his father) spends his days at Kargil Heights - the petrol pump he was given by the Government as compensation for the martyrdom of his son. His office is decorated with Anuj’s photographs and memoirs. “This is one of India’s top five petrol pumps,” he shares. “In Delhi it was ranked Number 2 in 2011 and sells the maxi*mum petrol even now. My station is full with cars because of the trust people have in us. We have never done anything wrong till date because this station is not a ‘compensation’ for our child. It has never been a business for me.”

    CORRUPT BEUREUCRATES-

"They gave their son for their country and beureucrates entertained them with pervert services, aghast is this..! "
S.K. Nayyar, Anuj's father, was allotted a gas station in Delhi by the Government of India in recognition of the services of his son.

When all this settled And Mr.Nayyar, the father of Anuj never wanted to take the station, but when he understood the the feelings and took steps to start the station,it was nightmare for him, people assassinated his charactor, one of the police personal said,"prove Anuj was your son then i will give u the NOC"Mr.Nayyar went and showed him three pictures, one when he was holding Anuj when he was two hrs old,one when he was given stars, and one when he was giving his shoulder to the deadbody of Anuj. Why all this was happening, society thought they got a petrol pump, now they will earn crores, and they wanted some cut of it,Delhi Vidyut Board refused to give Electricity Connection, unless he had to pay Rs 5Lakh,for whole yr This Brave Man fought and runned the pump on genrator, but when all money which they had was over they took keys and planned to throw to president,Thank You Mam now we cannot run it,Not All Red Tapism did all the deed but common pep like us abuse at the pump, try to buy the emmotion, have we ever thought,A Man at the Age of 65 is working day and night u go there at one o clock in night he is there, seven in the morn he is there, for him this is not a petrol pump, this is his son,on his BD the whole pump is decorated with flower,Do our soldiers fight for petrol pumps, can a petrol pump console the family,i feel it will never make them forget there son.and we with our 2.5 inch small toungue make fun of it.They are not they were, what they are they wanted to be,and live with such insensitive society is a miracle. My Nayyar fought against the system and got Kargil Heights.
But Ten years after sepoy Baljeet Singh laid down his life in Kargil war, the family of the martyr accused the Centre and the State Government of not fulfilling any of the assurances made to them.THe family spend 2 lakh on his memorium but govt dint pay a single penny to it.Kargil War was first televised war of India, the whole country was filled with anger, watching and hearing all this, but what we remember now is Barkha Dutt and LOC Kargil the movie,i am not preaching any thing over here,i am not going to say do something for the country, live for the die for the country, become a hero, iam just trying to show where are we heading for.I just want to say if ever get chance go to Kargil Heights and say hello to Mr.Nayyar and tell him what his son has done what he is doing Is simply gr8 .DOes india remember these names Capt Anuj Nayyar, Capt Jerry Premraj, L/Nk Balwan Singh, Nk Ram Sarup, Sep Satyavir Singh, Sep Sheesh Ram, Sep Varinder Kumar, Sep Karan Singh,do you have any answer?

at the end i will conclude by saying-
"agar todne hi the gharonde to phir basaaye kyun,
hifaazat na kar sake jis chidiya ki
    use churaaye kyun"

this is my question to the TODAY'S GOVERNMENT..!
