Oriya weddings are not solemnized extravagantly and are performed in a very simple way although they follow every ritual of a Hindu marriage ceremony. A uniqueness of Oriya wedding is that the mother of the groom as well as the elderly ladies in the family does not participate in the wedding ceremony. The Brahmins solemnize the wedding during the day time whereas the Non-Brahmins prefer it during the evening. The pre-wedding rituals include Jayee Anukolo Ceremony, Mangan Tradition, Diya Mangula Puja, Barajatri & Baadua Pani Gadhua Custom. The wedding ceremony is kept simple without any splendor and grandeur. The wedding ceremonies include kanyadan and saptapadi custom and haatha ghanti custom. The post- wedding rituals includes grihaprvesh and astha mangala custom.
