With the introduction of new educational system of the West, came forth many organizational and structural changes in the traditional system, such as : a). The Guru-Shishya Parampara (Teacher Student Legacy) which existed in the traditional educational system almost came to an end. b). Modern education system has a cosmopolitan student structure. Education no more remained the monopoly of a few upper caste people. c). Modern education system extends educational opportunities equally to all the people. Children belonging to all the strata of the society have an equal chance of learning in these institutions. d). Teachers are appointed on the basis of educational achievements irrespective of their caste, or birth. This itself is a principle which is opposed to the traditional practice of the teachers being selected from the upper castes. e). The very structure of the teaching profession is secularized. The teachers at various levels (primary, middle and higher secondary level) have to undergo training schemes. f). English has become the medium of instruction at all levels.
The ancient schools were “Gurukuls”; residential ones. The student- teacher relationship was considered to be one of the most pious and sacred one. The teachings of moral values and art was more emphasized. Entering into the medieval phase, the invaders brought in the study of culture and varied lifestyles. The approach to education was broadened. But the modern education has a wider spectrum of it. Explanation, analytical reasoning and rational thinking has been ruling the world today. The scope of it has been touching each and every aspect of our lives. The modern invasion of technology into our lifestyles has given an equal chance of availing education to all the species. The remarkable changes in the traditional educational system has definitely brought a progressive change in the society.
