Indian Education System has undoubtedly undergone many changes and advancements but in the last few years the patterns it has been following in schools and educational institutions has raised some serious questions on the vitality of the education in practical aspect. The way we are trying to approach advancement in education is in someway creating an unwanted pressure over the students. On the one side we want to improve the quality of education but we are actually doing it on the basis of some myths which will not bring quality rather decrease the qualitative elements of it. Following are some of the myths related to the quality of education in India :

Myth 1 : Extra burden of work and syllabus will increase the competency of the student. This is certainly not true, rather this will reduce the interest of the student and will demotivate them to study more.

Myth 2 : Arrogant and strict Teachers can handle the class more properly. This also is not right, arrogant and over strict teachers will only frighten the students and certainly affects their focus.

Myth 3 : Bookish knowledge is superior than the Self Manifested knowledge. Students should not be encouraged to overindulged in bookish knowledge, there should always be scope of expressing self ideas and knowledge.

Myth 4 : Extra Curricular Activities are not so important. In fact such activities are also very important for an overall development of the personality of the student.

Myth 5 : A Teacher and a Student should not become friendly. Again this is very important to have a cordial relationship between a teacher and the student in order to make a good atmosphere in the classroom. A teacher should know his/her limits and should be encouraging while a student should be respectful towards the teacher and try to inculcate the knowledge that the teacher is trying to impart to them.

The basic and popular myths may include:

    1. Owning a degree makes you a better teacher- degrees have never ever been more than any usual mark sheet. It may show the hidden knowledge within you; but it certainly does not declare about you being a qualitative teacher. Teaching is an art.

    2. Students learn better on discovering things their own way- all time own findings are not proved to be the correct ones. Sometimes it is better for a teacher to guide them and teach them.

    3. Children learn more when they control their own syllabus- it is thought that students deciding upon what is to be read is the best approach to make them learn to their best; which is not so in reality. Sometimes, their own choice has absolutely no remarkable results.
