India has a rich cultural heritage, full of monuments, temples and palaces which are beautifully carved and represent a fabulous architecture of India. Most of the monuments are very old and historical which have now become the symbols of cultural legacy. Following are the best historical monuments in India:

Ghats of Varanasi

These Ghats are situated on the banks of holy river Ganga and happen to be the one of the sacred places in India. There are about 85 Ghats in Varanasi and are used for Ganges Aarti, morning meditation and bathing cremation. The Aarti that takes place at the Dashashwamedh Ghat of Varanasi is a big attraction for the tourists as it is just mesmerizing. Varanasi is one of the oldest living cities of India as well as in the world and also known as Banaras and Kashi.

Taj Mahal

This symbol of love and one of the Seven Wonders of the World is also one of the historical monuments of India. It is situated in Agra on the banks of holy river Yamuna, a beautifully structured monument and a unique example of architecture of Mughal Persian, Ottoman Turkish and Indian styles. However Fatehpur Sikri is also a historic site to be seen in Agra.

Golden Temple

Situated in Amritsar this Golden Temple is actually known as Harmandir Sahib; a Sikh Gurdwara. This is one of the holiest shrines of India and also a historical one considered to be a pilgrimage for Sikhs. People feel to receive bliss and peace after visiting this Gurdwara numerous of devotees visit here every month or year.

Mahabodhi Temple

This is situated in Gaya a district of Bihar state and happens to be a historical monument and a Buddhist shrine. On the site there is Mahabodhi Tree Lord Buddha Stupa and the monastery call Bodhimanda Vihara. This is indeed a soothing place where people and especially the followers of Buddha come and believe to attain salvation through meditation. This is also one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Brihadishwara Temple

This temple is also known as Periya Kovil or the Big Temple that is one the India’s largest temples situated in Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu. This is a historical temple dedicated to Lord Shiva build by the Cholas. Tamil Nadu has got two world heritage temples one is Brihadishwara temple itself and other is the Airavatesvara Temple. Thousands of devotees visit these temples as they are supposed to be the place of where people receive blessings and grace of Lord Shiva.

Shore Temple

It is located on the shore of Bay of Bengal at Mahabalipuram in the state of Tamil Nadu; it is an ancient monument in India that is constructed with the blocks of granite. The shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, Mahabalipuram is famous for having a number of monuments which are UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lotus Temple

Situated in Delhi and also known as Bahai Temple, Lotus Temple is one of its kinds of monument that is historical as well as very famous. Even the tourists from abroad visit here to see its enormous structure and beautiful architecture. This is basically a house of worship, meditation and for peace for all religion. This temple is a symbol of peace and unity among human race.

Hawa Mahal

This historical monument belongs to the royal Rajputs of Rajasthan and situated in the capital city of Rajasthan—the Pink City; Jaipur. It is a pyramid shaped five storied palace built by red and pink sandstones, and having numerous of open windows without closings. This belonged to Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh who had built it for the women’s of royal families. Hawa Mahal is one of the biggest attractions of Jaipur and a must visit monument.

Victorial Memorial Hall

It is situated in West Bengal, Kolkata and one of the biggest attractions for the tourists and visitors coming to Kolkata. Victoria Memorial Hall is dedicated to the Queen Victoria and administers as a museum with a huge collection of manuscripts, paintings and sculptures of the British period. This has also been declared as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in India.
 
Taj Mahal, Agra: An immense mausoleum of white marble, built in Agra between 1631 and 1648 by order of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favourite wife, the Taj Mahal is the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage.

Mysore Palace, Mysore: The sprawling Mysore Palace is located in the heart of Mysore city. It is from this palace the erstwhile rulers , the Wodeyars, ruled the Mysore Kingdom. Though Mysore is often referred to as the "City of Palaces", the term Mysore Palace refers to the largest and the most opulent of all its surviving palaces located in the city center, called the Amba Vilas Palace.
