Muslim weddings are known as “Nikah” which is a Urdu term. It is celebrated with splendor and magnificence. Unlike Hindu weddings, they do not have any auspicious time so the marriage ceremony takes place at any time according to the convenience. Muslim wedding is celebrated in three parts, the pre-wedding celebration, where the families of the bride and groom pay visit to each other, it also includes ceremonies like Istikhara, Imam-Zamin,Mangni, Mehendi and Manjha. The 2nd part is the wedding, where the “Nikah” is being solemnized. The wedding rituals include welcoming the “Barat”, followed by the Nikah ceremony, followed by signing of the Nikahnaama , then the blessings are taken by the groom from elderly women and then followed by Dinner, Prayers and Aarsimashaf. The last part is the Vidai where the bride leaves for her new home, welcoming the bride at the groom’s place, chuathi is where the bride pays visit to her parent’s home on the fourth day and lastly its Valimah ceremony where the groom’s family hosts a reception for welcoming the new bride.
