Maruti Suzuki has launched the first tall hatchback car Wagon R in the year 1999, which remained as one of the bestselling car in the Indian Automobile Market. The giant manufacture, which makes cars for India roads have ungraded its bestselling Wagon R almost after a decade in the year 2010 to remain in the competition with others. This car was redesigned and came with four new variants in India i.e. three petrol versions and one CNG version. Again a facelift was done to the Wagon R in the year 2013, which has turned around the design, making it quite appealing. The new version comes with an improved fuel economy, elegant design, advanced feature along with a taller posture. Here is a closer and detailed look of the new upgraded version of Maruti Suzuki Wagon R

Performance , Technology , Engine and Powertain

The modifications are mostly cosmetic in the new WagonR as the refurbished carries on the same 998 cc 3-cylinder, K-10 engine that spins 67 bhp @ 6200 and 90 Nm of torque @ 3500 rpm. The 5-speed manual transmission provides smooth manoeuvring of the car. The CNG version of the engine delivers 58 bhp @ 6200 rpm and 77 Nm of torque @ 3500 rpm. The 2013 WagonR retains the cable type transmission and frame-type suspension of its predecessor model. Thanks to its gas filled setup, the car feels very different from the oil filled older mechanism. The NVH levels have also been improved. Maruti has doubly worked to improve the front suspension to ensure that the car handles better than before. The power mill of the new car has been fine-tuned to deliver an impressive 8 percent extra mileage. The upgraded car claims to deliver a fuel efficiency of 20.51 kmpl (as per the CMVR Rule) in petrol and 19.3 kmpl in CNG.

    Wagon R Design

The upgraded WagonR receives heavy revisions on the outside. It eschews the boring façade with a modish front fascia that now sports a fancy dual-slat front grille with a single horizontal slat and an exclusive stroke of chrome for the high-end LXi and VXi variants. The upgraded model gets a huge air dam and rearranged sporty fog lamps, not to forget the revised bumper that not only adds more character and body to the car, but also cuts down on friction considerably. On the rear, it retains the side and rear profiles of its predecessor, though it gets new revised taillights at the back.

    Wagon R Interiors

The inside looks swish and refreshing, thanks to the all new dual-tone beige and black interiors and upholstery. While the upper half of the dashboard in beige looks classy, the black finish on the lower half just amps up its "oomph" quotient. The twin-tone theme is the same for the upholstery too, but only for the LX and LXi variants. The top-end VXi model comes with swanky all-beige upholstery. The steering wheel and the dashboard mounted gearbox are new. The overall length of the WagonR has been slashed marginally while the wheelbase remains pretty much unchanged. Plus, it also gets a new storage compartment above the glove box along with the option of day/night view for the rear-view mirror. The VXi model gets an integrated Eagle Wings music system with integrated USB and AUX-in ports.

Wagon R Models , Colors and Price

The new Wagon R from Maruti Suzuki comes in three petrol variants and a CNG variant, namely LX, LXI, VXI, and LXI CNG. The LX and LXI models come with 1.0L petrol engine and 5 Speed manual transmission gearbox and rest common features. Whereas, the VXI comes with some additional features that include keyless entry, tilted steering, electrical ORVM, front passenger under seat tray, rear power windows, security system and dual SRS airbag and ABS are available with the VXI with ABS model. The new LXI CNG variant has all similar features as the rest expect for the CNG Kit equipped in it. In addition to the existing colours such as Baker's Chocolate, Glistening Grey, Silky Silver, Superior White, and Breeze Blue, the new Wagan R is available also in a fresh dual-tone color along with two new colors Passion Red and Ecru Beige.

    Maruti Waron R Hatchback Prices

    • Maruti Suzuki Wagon R LX : Rs. 3,64,621
    • Maruti Suzuki Wagon R LXI : Rs. 3,96,730
    • Maruti Suzuki Wagon R VXI : Rs. 4,22,100
    • Maruti Suzuki Wagon R VXI with ABS : Rs. 4,53,415
    • Maruti Suzuki Wagon R LXI CNG : Rs. 4,50,709

The Wagon R is a perfect family car that promises good fuel economy. The car offers spacious interiors, which allows you to spread your legs and sit comfortably. The ergonomically designed knobs and remote keyless entry in the higher models offers convenience. The biggest drawback of this car is that it is not available in diesel variants so it is not suitable for those who need to travel at least a 100 km everyday. Another drawback is that the safety features like ABS and Airbag are only available with the high-end variants, although these features are quite necessary for all. Besides all the features, powertain, performance and fuel efficiency, Accoding to me the new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is a good choice for a small family bcuz it comes at affordable prices.
