A visit to the markets of Delhi is a must for travelers to the metropolitan city of Delhi. One of the most distinguishing features of markets in the city is that every shopping centre has its own specialty and ambience. Shopping in the capital city is fun and there are number of marketplaces, which include wholesale markets, shopping malls, local markets and even weekly markets. The shopping places offer a whole lot of different items that lures the tourists. Some of the best market or shopping places in Delhi are listed below.

    Chandni Chowk

    Chandi Chowk, the oldest market of Delhi, which exist since more than hundred years. Situated in old Delhi, a discovery of its zigzag, slender pathways is definitely an escapade for tourists. The best things to buy in this market are ethnic and semi-precious jewelry, dress materials, sarees, bridal lehangas, fabrics and electronic goods. Moreover, items that are found in this market are of extremely reasonable rate. This marketplace is famous for street food and there are several vendors that serves scrumptious street food like Aloo Tikki, Aloo Chat, Kachori, Paranthas, just to name a few. The market remains closed on Sundays and is always crowed by both tourists and locales.

    Janpath

    One of the most famous marketplaces of Delhi, which is favorite among all sections of people, which includes the elite class, students, middle class and tourists. This is one of the vibrant markets of Delhi, which has something or the other for everyone. Janpath is an amalgamation of branded showrooms and local shops that sells a wide variety of items. Ethnic jewelry, antique show pieces, embroidered bags, cushion covers, etc. are some of the items that are found in this market and lures the foreign travelers. However, to shop in this market one should possess good bargaining skills.

    Lajpat Nagar Central market

    Popular among everyone, the Central Market located in Lajpat Nagar is the best place to buy designer sarees, lehangas, suits, etc at a reasonable price. This market offers a view of the Indian culture and is one the busiest as well as oldest markets of Delhi. People can buy an array of different items like home furnishing, bags, shoes, accessories, crockery and lots more besides Indian traditional attire. There are several street vendors as well that sells export rejected items, antique showpieces, jewelry, etc at a reasonable price. The market remains closed on Mondays.

    Dilli Haat

    An artificial market set amidst India’s traditional ambience, in Dilli Haat is a huge one-stop market for buying ethnic items and artifacts of different states of India. The small thatched roof cottages of Dilli Haat give a feel of the villages of India and lure the tourists. This is a must visit places of Delhi for a shopping spree. The place offers a great ambience and is popular for handicrafts as well as cultural functions are organized. Dilli Haat also houses several food courts of different states, which offers different delicacies of each of the Indian state. This place remains open from morning 10 a.m. to evening 10 a.m. even during national holidays.

    Khan Market

    Khan Market is one of the classiest markets of Delhi and is popular for housing top brand book stalls, best boutiques, branded showrooms, and best-in class lifestyle shops. This place is not for the ones who love bargain shopping. There are several shops one can find Ayurvedic medicines, cosmetic, skin care items etc. it also houses some of the best food joints that serves a wide array of delicacies that include Mughlai dishes, street foods and lot more. A visit to Khan Market is must and is suggested for travelers to the city.

    Paharganj

    Paharganj market is the most chaotic and crowded places of Delhi. The best haggling shopping can be done in this place. This is a wholesale market of the city and mostly export items can be found in this market at an exceptionally affordable price. This market is thronged by travelers as it is located in proximity to the railway station. Paharganj is the best place for buying some unique and reasonably priced items. The market is best for shopping incense, handicrafts, books, clothes, shoes, junk jewelry, textiles and hookah pipes. It remains open till 9 p.m. everday.

    Sarojini Nagar

    One of the most famous shopping destinations of Delhi, Sarojini Nagar is like a paradise for shopping freaks. This place is ideal for buying branded and designer clothes at a very cheap price. There are numerous shops that sell export rejected as well as export surplus items at an unbelievably reasonable price. Owing to this reason, this place is always over crowded with people and besides these items; this place is famous for selling fashion accessories. Situated in South Delhi, this market remains open all throughout the week except for Mondays.
