Though educational institutions have increased tremendously and lakhs of students are taking up to education, the present educational system in India has its won drawbacks. Some of the main defects may be mentioned here : 1. Present system of education is not very much linked with the socio-economic needs of the society. 2. The budgetary allotment for education for a vast nation like ours is very meagre. 3. The present education does not generate the type of knowledge that is relevant to adjust ourselves with changed conditions of society. 4. The employment potential of our education is very inadequate for it is not associated with a particular body of knowledge, which is necessary for meeting the challenges of the technological world. 5. Our education is not value based. It does not have the necessary tinge of Indianness. It has failed to provide the value framework which may prepare committed leaders, professionals, technocrats, bureaucrats, businessmen and others. 6. The present education largely focuses on the individual material gains, it neglects the non material aspects which are necessary for developing a healthy personality. 7. It is alleged that the present educational system has failed to inculcate the spirit of Nationalism among the children of the new generation. 8. Our education system still continues to be urban biased. It has failed to cater to the needs of the villages and also the agriculture which is the backbone of the country.
