In my opinion, ragging in Educational Institutions is not an isolated issue and cannot be resolved by a simple action - Anti-Ragging Campaign. This Offence has links with various other sex crimes committed against women, girl students and young girls in the society, kid girls, young boys; sex crimes committed in public transport system etc, etc. All these crimes have one common factor. It is always committed by either High-up people in the society, politicians, Govt.Officials., Civil Servants, Business tycoons and Noe-rich people, Liquor Tycoons OR their sons, supporters and gundas. These men have again a common factor, absolute confidence that they can never be reached by the law and the final laugh will always theirs. If closely studied, it can be observed that cruel ragging is not committed by the senior students in general, but by a handful of criminally minded senior students. These students, it can be observed, not joined the Institution on merit list, but through paid seats on recommendations of Very High-Up Dignitaries. These students are either sons of those dignitaries, their supporters or from their Gunda gangs. It may not be an exaggeration to say, there are politicians in this Great Country of ours who use a brand new dress and a virgin girl every day and never touch them again.(May be the makers of SLUM DOG MILLIONAIRES should note this for their next Cinema to earn a better Academy Award.) In ordinate to eliminate this colossal menace, a strictly sincere effort by The Executive, The Educational Authorities including Educational Institutions, The Law enforcing authorities and the Judiciary is required. Also new laws giving deterrent punishment to the culprits should be enacted. Deterrent punishments should also be given to those who collaborate with these culprits, before or after the crime is committed. I doubt, how much a small group like ours can attain against this colossal forces, who are able to influence The Executives, Law Enforcers and may be the Judiciary itself ?. Still we need not be disappointed, we can try. Giving Admission to students from the merit list alone could solve this problem to a great extend. Can we do that ? JAI HIND
Yes, Ragging must be dealth with severe punishment. In most cases these happens in Hostels of colleges.Student hailing from big families and have influence in higher positions often finds fun by doing such ugly acts against other students who hail form poor families. Often, Principals of these colleges are becoming irresponsible towards such acts fearing he/she may lose his Job etc. Those who attempt such uncivilized act against innocent ones should well do to think for a moment of themselves subjecting to such cruel acts. It is a pleasure for some to find happiness in others helplessness. I should say ragging in any form is barbaric and it should be stopped with adequate law and severe punishment. Senior students should be path makers for others to follow. A educational institution should be a place where friendship succeeds above all other . Let us keep that friendship for ever not hatred instead. Let our campuses be free from ragging and political vengence which often results in loss of life. Spread love and co-operate for a better civilised nation.
Your views are worth supporting. Only by following your views and suggestions we can make our India a Ragging free nation equipped with the best education system Congrats. Keep it up.
No amount of surface scratching and futile thinking will prevent things from getting from bad to worse. Required is a total and extensive change in mind set and attitudes. The answer is in Yog as propagated by Baba Ram Dev ji.
Dear Members, Physical torture and sexual offences in the name of ragging in educational institutions are to be tackled tactfully by the authorities who are empowered to regulate the activities of the students in the Institution. There shall be a code of conduct for the educational institutions and the same shall be well publicized and strictly enforced. It shall provide for an opportunity to the freshers to demonstrate their natural talents in various fields such as sports, games, arts and in general their capability to survive obstacles. Obstacles, oppression and suppression leads to demonstration of the capability of the subject to evolve viable alternatives. Life beyond the boundary of the educational institution is not a bed of roses. The thorns are more active. There is a need to draw a clear boundary line with reference to the extent to which any one subject shall be exposed to. There shall be an effective mechanism to watch the activities of all the students so that any excesses shall be identified and curbed before it breaches the established code of conduct for the institution. Every institution shall celebrate a talent day for the freshers to demonstrate their talents. Artificial barriers between the seniors and juniors will pave the way for the development of unhealthy and unacceptable rivalry between them and would lead to an environment of hate and fear. The education system should encourage the building of bridges between different sections of the society based on trust and love. It is not possible in an environment of isolation. College students are youngsters. They are creative. Fear of punishment is the least effective instrument to regulate their Behaviour. It,at best, would lead to the development of novel means to escape punishment. Their colleagues and friends would accept those who exhibit such smartness as their leaders and this would motivate them to indulge in such antisocial activities with more courage and conviction. They would consider it as an acceptable Behaviour. I would advocate an education system which encourages love and trust among the students. They should be encouraged to take the lead to protect and assist the weak among them. Public recognition of positive attitudes of students will induce them to be more positive and it would build up a strong bond of trust and confidence. Yes, this pattern would demand total involvement of the authorities in the development of the wards entrusted to their care.
An Excellent article on How can we make Ragging free India and education system ,Unless even a MLA is not put behind bars these elements will not have respect for law and judiciary, very long back the notorious crook Charles Shobraj had made a statement"The value of an Indian Inspector is Ten Rupees.
The easiest way to make India ragging free is to allot separate hostels to the juniors and seniors. Seniors should be barred to enter the hostels of the juniors at night. It's the only solution.
Ragging free India can only be achieved if ragging is banned by the government.. Ragging definately brings many student a fear and this is the reason some students have commited suicide in the past years.. It should be strictly prohibited in colleges..
I don't think its easy to make ragging free india.. Studnets who are freaks get the chance to try their hand on ragging.. in fact studnets who are new to the colleges also wants to be ragged but to some extent.. tehy do not except the whole lot of indecent ragging but a bit is wanted by all the new students like freshers party and all..
It is easy to make india a ragging free country.. All we need is the government support to ban ragging that takes place in the country in every school and colleges.. it is a matter of disgust that students are commiting suicide due to indecent and insulting ragging..
Ragging is banned by the govt. Even the smallest incidents of teasing should not go unpunished. The problem lies with monitoring. With effort though, anything can be achieved and then this is no big deal. Just that the institutes are so damn unhelpful in this regard.
You are correct, but then too students are commiting suicide due to the teaisng and ragging.. It is the responsibility of the school and college authorities to stop this crime against students. even though it is banned the curse still exists..
Ragging free India this is very true that ragging has very disastrous effects on some sensitive people. students rag juniors to very shameful acts. this is highly uncalled for. they should have some humanity and respect for what they are and similarly for the fellow humans. we should act learned and should try to understand the gravity of situation as ragging sometimes takes lives of student.
well i think both government of India and college administration must took a charge on checking the modern age ritual of ragging.
Ragging is the worst thing that exist in many Indian educational institutions and Colleges in India. This sort of Mental and physical harassment can even cause death of many students. This is a real traumatism and I am against it.
Ragging happens in every college including big or small. It has become the tradition of colleges and seniors do take this at their advantage. I have also gone through the ragging period in my college but that was not very painful as it seems to be nowadays. I have heard stories from my technical engineer ad doctor friends that how they are ragged in their colleges and what aftermaths they have faced. It was disastrous. RAgging should actually be banned by the government and not only in colleges but in schools also seniors are taking ragging of the one who has entered a recently in the school. This is disgusting.
Yes you are very much right. It is a tantrum thrown on the students and they even get frustrated with the ragging tradition. They usually gets so much irritated that many students even commit suicide due to the insult they face during the ragging period. Ragging should be banned by the government of india as this brings mental harrasment to the students who have come to study and not to get tortured.
ragging is rampant especially in colleges located in remote areas as there are not much people in and around to keep an eye on such activities. it is a crime to assault any fellow human being, be it physical or rather mental.. students must realise that their juniors are also students like them and they do not owe them anything for which they should even address them as sir..
