India needs to develop more evenly. States Like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Punjab are devloped whereas most of the others are backward.

Also language divide needs to be broken. There is some sort of divide over South and North over Hindi. We need to encourage use of English all over India otherwise the traditional mother tongue languages of the south will extinct as southerners will talk in hindi rather than in tamil.

i think you should have read this post yourself, before publishing it.

    You ARe contradicting yourself.

Do you think USe of ENGLISH, will help save your language from getting "extinct"

Language plays a VERY important role in individual culture. Cutting the language off that culture will be like Clipping a birds Wings.

Rather that, STOP using it totally, efforts should be taken to Teach regional language in the schools.

We should remove the hatedness about other languages from our mind and understand that before any lanuage or region first is our country.we should accept hindi as the first language as it is our national language. It should be used everywhere.

English liberated us from the cobwebs of thought we were enslaved in. Earlier we were taught that all this world is Maya and the life after death would be real life. This nonsense made us inactive and depend upon the forces of history. But when Indians studied English they came into contact with the outside world and gathered new ideas. They also picked up ideas of nationalism and liberation. Therefore lawyers led the freedom struggle in India. They had become lawyers only because they had studied English. The role of English can not be underestimated.

English is now spoken in middle-class societies. Local languages have tended to separate Indians from each other. Therefore there should be no forcing down any language on any one. Indian unity is the need of the hour. Lord Macaulay should be honoured for teaching us English.

I agree with you pranoy. India still is backward in some aspects as you have mentioned. it is up to us,the youth of India to bring about a change.

I agree for your thought of not underestimate English but we should give more respect to Hindi as its our national language we should have pride about our language
Look at some of country like Japan they use only there language in every field when they go to other country then also they speak in there language which shows there love and respect to the nation which creates a sens of togatherness in people mind and other country will also respect us

Its a farce that english liberated us, Britishers were living in stone age when "Indus valley civilization" was flurishing in our land, but they caught up. Knowledge trickles across boundaries, no matter what, it may take time for sure in some cases, during 18th century we were slow to change and before we could catch up, we were enslaved and english was imposed upon us. We were brainwashed to think that english is the sole carrier of scientific and other forms of knowledge. Many countries like China, Russia, France are still sticking to their own languages and still they are flourishing socially/economically.:)

Yes I agree, Every language should have its importance. Efforts are being made to avoid any language getting extinct.

for eg: Sanskrit, which is still being taught in school.

    Dear Arthy,

The problem is not with the language, but with the people.A certain language is made to speak compulsory not because we are faithful towards it. Making people speak English everywhere in India will not solve the problem, but our understanding that every Indian language and every Indian land is ours we should respect each and every langauge and understand the essence of it.Hindi is our national language so i think every indian individual should have the basic knowledge of speaking Hindi. Languages are made for communication and for spreading love amongst everyone and not as a tool for rivalry.

Yeah..I too agree with the separation of languages...which divides INDIA into many parts..........its difficult for south Indians to communicate with north Indians and vice-versa. so..some decision should be taken to unite INDIA.....

The Languages are just for the identification and to communicate the things in their own way which the people like. One way we should be very proud only in India we have so many languages .But the other way yes we were differentiated with the Languages. But do you all think that it is big problem. What ever language you speak when you say Vandemataram every Indian can understand. With the word Vande matram we can unite together.

    Pranoy,

i accept you up to an extent, now we are understand each other by a foreign language, why can't we try an our own language, i am from kerala, but didn't get a chance to learn Hindi, in my school days i was happy with it- but now i am regretting on it, Hinidi was not a subject in my school- i am from technical school from kerala, it was totally a foreign language for me at that time, that's a big mistake our bureaucracy or system done to me.

incidentally i started to read history- i sense my taste in history later- specially in Indian history-i thrilled with joy by knowing what was India in ancient period-from glimpses of world history-by Nehru, -thanks for English language- because i read that book in English,

sad side is- i learn about my India by the help of an foreign language-that make me ashamed really.-even though we have more than 20 languages as our own.

so i strongly support the 3 language system of Nehru to all Indians as compulsory to understand each other better it will solve the future possiblely arouse - its an essential to hold our mother land as it is for our coming generations.

History will tell us all country's holds its status as it is by FORCE, but in the case of India- it never used force anywhere - yes it used its force of LOVE- or conquered the hearts of millions by love. that's our binding force, even though i prefer a common language as whole will do things more better- i hope.

i expect your comments on my view with thanks.

can't imagine a country talking in english rather than his own national language...that only make the country more like a colony

    Its demand of the time!!!

    Yes guys,
Its demand of the time We should make Hindi as our national language compulsory in each n every school of all states..........It would provide us a more binding force, and we can make our progress with more pace........
This is the only option we have, otherwise its very difficult to minimise our communication barrier...
    Jai Hind!!!!!!!!!!!

    Please understand

    Dear mahammad,
nobody is hating any language. everybody should learn their own language. language and culture should not be imposed. hindi may be the national language but we need to understand the fact that other states do also have their culture. just understand India is not a nation, india is supra nation( a nation of nations). for me india is like europe which has french,english,german,portugese,spanish..... if you think i am speakin abt languages you are wrong. i am speaking abt nations. now you should understand that andhras, tamils, kannadigas, malayalese are different nations.but they chose to stay under one hood indian supra nation. a lot of damage has already done by the leaders who didnt understand this. atleast our generation should know this. hindi is not a great language, it is one bloody hell of language(no offense) from a westeren perspective. remove hindi from states which doesnt need it. make their regional languages as the official language. place english with the status of 'helping language'. it not only enables us to talk to each other but also to the world. people may say this might bring rift in the federation. non sense. indians are sleeping since a longtime. waking up is very difficult. just satisfy them for the timebeing and save the languages.they are our national treasures.
