    India is a vast country inhabited be people of different castes, creeds and ethnicity. We all are Indians irrespective of geographical location. All Indians must have knowledge on the different communities and ethnicity and cultures of our country. The literacy rate of India is increasing day by day. But unless we know ourselves, the literacy is value less.

    Some people of our country often encounter some peculiar questions from the co-passengers.

    * If you are Assamese, why do you not look like a Chinese?
    * You are from South India, then how do you know Hindi?
    * Is Manipur near Nepal?
    * Do you have such buildings in your state?
    * Is there any college in Bihar ?
    * What do the people eat in your state?
    * Will I need a Visa to come to Sikkim?

    The people who ask such questions are not illiterate. They are literate people of our country. But it makes me wonder how come are they unaware of such basic knowledge? Is our education system wrong ? :confused:

    Any comment from our Proud Indians ?

    this is an intriguing topic. but i must say there are people in india, including me and the i think everyone in india who are not aware of many basic things about india. the very reason for this is we are living in a sub-continent which has loads of people with many gods and languages and various cultures and traditions. even education system is to be blamed to an extent that they offer very little and obsolete information on this.

    This is a little disgraceful on part, though its not completely us to blame. It is our educational system which shares the blame. We are not taught with all the cultural, geographical and historical matters pertaining to India. It is only during our early schooling we can learn such facts. Moreover schools can conduct tours wherein the students can be taken to various states and teachers can brief them on various types of geographical, cultural and historical information of that place. students would learn fast if taught practically.

    Fault lies in our educational system.Though we are taught about our country still much emphasis is not laid in educating us regarding the geography, history and other areas pertaining to the nation.India is a land of vivid culture and traditions,icon of National Integration. Obsolete minimal information provided by education system regarding the country won`t help us in knowing the country much.
    Literacy rate of the country might increase but whats important is being a "Country Literate" first i.e knowing our wonderful India completely.
