Kanigiri is a historical town in the state of Andhra Pradesh and a popular tourist destination. The hamlet is situated in the Prakasam district and has a rich historical background. The region was under the rule of the Mauryan Dynasty and this is evident from the chronicles of history as well as from the historical monuments and forts that are present here. The town hosts several temples and mosques and this makes it a pilgrimage destination for people of both the religions.
