The 26th November 2008 terror attacks In Mumbai shook India and stunned the world, revealing huge chinks in the country's anti-terror Armour. A year later, the sole surviving terrorist captured by authorities, Terrorist Ajmal Kasab, has not been convicted, the masterminds of the deadly assault are free, and the country harboring the terrorists, Pakistan, is probably laughing at our weakness, dismissing us as a state whose outrage is easily calmed by tokenism. Our leaders say war is not the only way to assert one's strength, dialogue with Pakistan is the best recourse given the volatile situation in the country. But, is this 'avoid-confrontation' policy responsible for India's failure to check terrorism?

    Is India a soft state?

    Yup

Yes, undoubtly India is a soft state. We as Indians fail to punish the demons who were responsible fo the ending the lives of innumerable innocent people.

One 9/11 in US and they seend troops to destroy Afghaniistan and Iraq without caring about the world. We as India just keep talking and talking, take no action and just look upto US which is playing dirty powerb game as it has its Asian base in Pakistan. So, it just doesn't take firm steps against it.

    Yes

India is a soft state, but one can't deny the fact that the presence of so many lives and such high population, it is difficult to protect every single person.

Israel counter attacked Lebanon on account of terrorist activities by Hezobullah. India being such a powerful country fails to take any action.

But at the same time its not correct to talk about one's politicians and government in such a low frame in front of the whole world.

Something needs to be done but, not in the way of the war endangering the complete nation. A solution needs to be reached, we all know bloodshed would be there... but it should be worth it.

"Soft state" is just a term and to me means 'failed governance'. The same goes for 'Hard hitting state'

No country can afford to take a 'Soft stand' or 'Hawkish stand' on any issue. Not in the era of globalization.

What India needs is a modern day Chanakya, irrespective of the party in power.:)

India is definately a soft state

India is actually proving the world that it can't do anything else than dialogues? Did the UK and the US engaged in talks when they faced the brunt of terrorism? No they took concrete measures. The US initiated a fight against Taliban and Aghanistan and now all nations in the world have been supporting the move, with NATO announcing plans to boost military presence in the war-torn country. Our leaders have given a chance to the world to make a mockery of us, again reiterating that we can't do anything else than to hold talks.

Right after the horrific Mumbai attack, I thought India would strike (at least) at terrorist camps in POK. That did not happen. Why?

I mean, look at Israel. Whenever Hamas fires a single rocket inside Israeli territory, there are a dozen of Israeli copters attacking Palestine and Hamas. This is because Israel has leaders who are strong and capable and have the will to do. This is turn makes Israel a strong state, ain't it?

    India looks for peace always!!

India is a peace loving country. It is the land of Mahatma Gandhi, the worshipper of non-violence. But if required then India can go beyond imagination. India wants to have decent, soft, peaceful relationship with the other countries but this does not mean that she will tolerate any antisocial or terrorism activities. She has power, force, laws and jurisdiction to safeguard the people.

    The land of Gandhi

Gandhian principle of non violence was perhaps a way out in the British period. But if we still follow similar state of affairs the whole country would soon be taken over by terrorists and foreigners. If India is not too soft a state, it is too frightened a state. It may amount to show off too. What’s the use of being an example for the world if terrorism is to continue?

    Ideologies….in bad times

They tell that India is a peaceful country and does not want to go into a state of war. It’s surely the land of Gandhi but Gandhian principles won’t work anymore. It’s high time we realize it. What seems that India has too strong a heart and can bear the murder of more and more of its men. Amazing na?

India is not a soft country; rather it is a confused nation, as it is unable to manage things well and systematically. What needs immediate action is set aside for a long while, while the other issues which require no attention are instigated at regular intervals, creating more mishaps and complication. This is simply shows the govt. inability to perform and act with the right solution at the right time. Basically this highlights the inability of the government to decide and provide over rightful solution.
