Since immemorial times, cinemas were considered to be a medium of relaxation. It provided a momentary respite from tensions and worries. Although in the olden times , the cinemas were the picked up stories from the real lives; it was still a source of entertainment for the pupil. But with the span of time, the natural occurrences are more widely getting depicted in the movies. Now a days, movies are more educative than entertaining. Each movie highlights a social issue with the concept of changing the existing mindset of the mass.

I agree with you. Cinema these days is being used as a tool for creating awareness regarding various issues.

Biopics are a source of inspiration and important lessons for the people. Movies such as 'Oh My God!' and '3 Idiots' make people think about their existing ways of thinking.

The question we should ask here is: have the tastes of people changed because of which there is a shift in the kind of movies being shown? Or is it that the movies are trying to educate the masses?

  3. Now-a-days different types of movies are released. Basically it depends on individuals perceiving ideas. At one point movies tell us about the real story of legends where as in some movies we get to learn different skills and developed technologies to maintain a feasible life. Sometimes we find movies fascinate our minds which captivate viewers and transcend them into another dimension. No doubt although movies had acknowledged us about different social issues and modern ideas, it has also entertained us in different standpoints.

    What do you conclude friends?

This is a matter of subjective perception to be honest. Films were initially produced for revolutions or for voicing concerns in the interest of the public. Notable Bengali filmmakers like Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen and Hritthik Ghatak were the very few regional directors who won international accolades for their films which mostly reflected the post-independence plight of the public and also threw light on how the human psychology works. Ironically, filmmaking procedures and techniques might have developed but some of the recent films are hardly as relevant as the films from these gems are still today. But then what may be entertaining for a person might be educational for another. Every film comes with a story (unless you’re not talking about degraded movies). It is on how we perceive, observe and critically analyze films. There isn’t any dearth of good films. It’s just how and what we want to absorb from films.
