India is the World's largest democracy in which freedom of press is a fundamental right. However, India's rank drops down by 9 positions and is now ranks 140 among 179 countries in Press Freedom Index. This rank of World's largest democracy is the lowest since 2002. What do you think is the reason behind this drop in the rank of India in the Press Freedom Index?

One of the possible reasons could be the quality of news which Indian media brings in. There isn't much effort and honesty being put in by the Indian media that can bring some change in the society or existing distortions of the government. Most of the media channels keep beating around the bush to prolong the news broadcast or show some nuisance to gain TRP ratings. Ironically and sadly, most of the Indian media lacks sense of responsibility.

I agree with you the main reason for this drop is the quality of news. Indian media does not have any quality in terms of news. They bring those news, which are of least important and makes them breaking news. Moreover, the news channels only focus on TRP rating and in order to gain that, they show hype things that are irrelevant and sometimes is not the way it is actually shown. They definitely, lacks the sense of responsibility and they have highly misused the freedom given to them by the Indian Constitution.
