What is the first thing that comes to the mind of a foreigner when he notices an Indian? Obviously, it will be different at different countries. Today Indians are residing all over the world. And at most of the places a stereotype image of the Indians is developed.

Recently one of my friends came back from Singapore, and he narrated me about his experiences. In a bus, when he said he is from India, the first question asked was that “Are you an IT professional? Yes, because of the immigration of a large number of IT professionals to that country, the people started looking at the Indians as IT professionals.

Another friend of mind narrated me about his experience. He was approached by a foreigner to repair his laptop only because of his Indian looks.

But the fact is that impressions of the Indian are not the same everywhere in the world. We hear about many negative examples from many parts of the world. The recent attack on Indians in Australia reflects such an example. Over the years, an impression of the Indians is formed by the habits and activities of the people.

In many parts of the world, that are inhabited by mostly people of Gujarati origins, Indians have an impression of business community, mostly the Motel owners

Can our friends share their experiences in the country where they are living?

    20 million Indians in abroad

I've seen that near about 20 million Indians are living in foreign countries. Majority of the Indians are choosing the places like California, New York and New Jersey. They have to make initial adjustments with the surroundings, working areas and other places. The South Indians especially the Keralians settled in abroad are forming a major portion of NRI community.

    The perception of Indians

Indians who go abroad do look for certain kind of jobs. It is true that most get settled in the Silicon Valley as IT professionals. Indian people do have a good aptitude in computers, as it is thought abroad. However this perception depends on the place and time. Most Indians in London are hotel owners. Every year many students go to USA to study hotel management.

Indians settled abroad Proud of India

Indians Living abroad are usually accused of forgetting Culture of India, but according to a study NRIs Love the Rituals and cultural values of Bharat.Indians, both settled in the Middle East and other Part of the world, very strongly appriciate that the historic and rich cultural values of India, its 3rd-largest pool of Technicians , Doctors , engineers and Scientists are the major positive characteristics which make all Indians settled abroad very Proud to be Indian.More than 80% of the Indians who are living or working abroad say India has been steadily getting modernized, yet Indians settled abroad, wherever they live, actively participate in Indian traditions, Rituals and respect Indian Cultural values and Sanskars.

NRIs Living in UK say they maintain their social and Cultural Traditions, observe social customs more zealously and have a strong feeling of love with India in celebrating Indian festivals like all fellow Indians in India. One of my NRI Friend say that the Children of Indians Living abroad also pursue education of Indian value system and Languages of India.

    Indian Livivng Abroad

The Indian are always considered as intellectual people and the IT technocrats have even proved it to the world. The reason why Indians are flocking and settling abroad is because, India is majorly into outsourcing and get projects from other nation. But then many Indians have their own business as well. One side the people of other nations respect and recognize the abilities of Indians, at the same side they also envy, for taking up their jobs in their very own country. But then there are always some conflicts, even if you live in your own nation.

I proud to be an Indian and I have a friend who has been studying Fuel Research , at Nottingham University, in the UK for 1 year. He says there are many Indians there, most of them are religious and some own small businesses. Our influence in the society is such that in every corner there’s Indian food!

I agree with your views that, many of the Indians are living abroad and working successfully there. And Indians are hard workers and the foreigners like to appoint Indians for working , because they charge very less and do work very nice in comparison to foreigners.

Indians today go to foreign countries like US, UK and Australia for higher studies as the education system of India is not yet up to the mark. They also go to foreign countries in search of jobs due to the lack of job opportunities in India. Indians are today found everywhere in the World and foreign nations favor appointing Indians for their efficiency and cost effectiveness.
