The people of Indian origin already constitute 7% of the total population in Singapore. So, to mingle with the main stream in Singapore may not be a problem for the Indians. They also may not feel alienated.

Singapore has been attracting thousands of people from India by its rich economy. Many people are working in this prosperous nation. Some people are right when they say, “In Singapore, you can experience Europe in Asia”.

A significant number of Indians and Bangladeshis are also engaged in manual jobs in this country. But most of the Indians are working in IT field.

Besides, the common language of Singapore is English. So, people don’t find it difficult to lead a convenient lifestyle in Singapore. We feel proud to say that the word “Singapore” is derived from the Sanskrit word, “Sinha Pur” (Sinha means lion and Pur means City). The prosperity of Indian culture is evident from this fact.

But are we in a similar position to contribute something to Singapore in the modern time? What else are the Indians contributing to this country apart from its name?

Rapid growth of industrialization has led to a develop economy. But at the same time is to be noted that the migrant Chinese population is behind this development of Singapore. Can we the Indians play a similar role in the development of Singapore?

I invite the Non Resident Indians ( NRIs) to express their views. They might be more aware on this topic.

Unity in diversity

Singapore boasts prevalence of almost all communities of south Asia and Europe. While Indians may not be so easily frequented they are one with the culture. Starting from its name, Singapore has a lot of Indianness attached to it. We Indians are there everywhere in the world and considering the development that is taking place in Singapore, it has become a job hotspot.

Singapore have become a popular place for Indians, especially for education and job. The place hosts some of the best Engineering and MBA institutes and offers great job opportunities. It has been witnessed that many Indians today prefer going to Singapore for education and job than to other nations and moreover, there exist no discrimination which Indians have to face in other countries.
