Youth is the most dynamic and most energetic section of a nation and is also the future of a nation. However, introduction of Youth in politics is essential for every democracy to become successful and this was first initiated in the year 1930 with the formation of American Youth Congress. In the same way, India being the World’s largest democracy, the introduction of youth in Indian politics is quite essential to give democracy a real meaning. It has been witnessed that in the recent times, every political party in India has formed a youth wing to encourage the youth of our nation to participate in various national issues. However, amongst all, the two most prominent National political parties, the Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have also formed their youth wings that are functioning effectively as well as efficiently in encouraging the youth to take interest in national issues of India. Indian Youth Congress Founded in the year 1960, the Indian youth Congress is the youth wing of the Indian National Congress. This wing was formed with an objective of social work, where Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi was the first elected President, who later became the Minister of Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary affairs in the Indian cabinet. However, in the year 1970, under the leadership of Sanjay Gandhi, the Indian Youth Congress undertook several social activities for the development and progress of the Indian Society. In the year 1984, after his death, his elder brother, Rajiv Gandhi took over the charge and carried out his responsibilities as a young leader, who gave a new dimension to the nation with the development of Information technology. This wing has witnessed a great escalation in the number of young members and till 2006, it had more than 245,00,000 members all over India. In the year 2007, Rahul Gandhi, the son of Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi and the Former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi was elected as the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee and was given the charge of the Indian Youth Congress and the National Students Union of India. Furthermore, this youth wing of the National party has spread its wings all over the nation to encourage the Youth to join politics and use the power of the youth for the development and the progress of the nation and has a huge unit of 18900 blocks of the country. It is thus one of the largest youth organizations in the World. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad The name Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad signifies that this organization is related to the Youth of India. It was established just after India attained Independence in the year 1948, with an objective to channelize the energy of the youth, especially the students in building the nation. This is a student wing of the Hindu nationalist party RSS, which was registered on 9th July 1949. Although, the organization grew in a slow pace, in the year 1958 when Professor Yeshwantrao Kelkar became the main organizer Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) gained popularity. Several prominent leaders of the national party BJP were the former member of ABVP, the youth wing. This group carried out programmes and projects that are aimed at national integration, using social awareness to resolve various problems of the nation. They also run programmes intended to develop the capacity of individual students, which comprises of book-bank, students vacation employment bureau, inter-college and inter-university music competitions, literary competitions, social participation camps, etc. are just to name a few. Although, ABVP has spread all over the nation, however, it is more prominent in the Northern part of the nation and as a students organization, it has a strapping pedestal in the University of Delhi and has influenced the students and the youth to join politics for the construction of a better and developed nation. As a student’s organization, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has helped in resolving issues and problems related to education in India and with its various programs for promotion of education have helped in educating the youth of our nation. Which is a better youth organization of India? As youth are the future of a nation and a major factor for a nation’s development and growth, the youth organizations of India like Indian Youth Congress and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad have encouraged the youth to participate in social development of the nation. Both the organizations have worked towards promoting and motivating the youth, facilitating in forming a successful democracy. Which party according to you is a better youth organization of India, Indian Youth Congress or Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP)?
I would go with ABVP, although it hasn't made its presence felt in the other regions of India, it has been on the good deeds in the north. Indian Youth Congress on the other hand has disappointed in the long run. It has been enough for a while and i would rather prefer a change of party to see if there is any real good in other party as well. I believe ABVP can do some real good if it strives harder in making some real good agendas and policies for India.
Bharatiya Jan sangh president and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh pracharak , Balraj madhok was the founder of akhil bharatiya vidyarthi parishad. There is no nationalist student outfit like ABVP in our country. Promoting patriotism, inculcating nationalism and evolving a comprehensive youth leadership are some of the constructive activities of ABVP.
