Indian women have been of the concern since long time. The dis-empowerment and marginalization of the women in India have always been an issue to look into. Apart from this the health aspect of Indian women is also taking place in issues to be dealt with. Women suffer from poverty and hunger in more degree that what men suffer. Women who are important part of family need utmost care in health aspects as they are the ones who take care of family and bear child. Unfortunately amongst the poorer sections in India, women’s health is neglected largely by the family and moreover by the women themselves. Due to such ideals taken up by the poorer sections, which contribute majority of the Indian population, women’s health has never been taken up seriously as a matter of concern. There are certain broad aspects of health issues that have to be looked into, such as: • Malnutrition : India ranks second in having most number of children suffering from malnutrition. One of the reasons for this being, women eat less and low nutritious food. This results in birth of malnourished children. • Maternal mortality : Thousands of women of India die of childbirth related complications. India is supposed to have 10 times higher mortality rate than China. • Lack of proper medical supervision and facilities : Though there are some primary healthcare units established in the rural areas, lack of properly trained staff is major concern. This is the reason why most of the complications take place during child deliveries • Anemic women : India has highest number of married anemic women. Reason being; low quality food, illiteracy, and high cost of medical facilities. Many of the women are unaware of the iron content (about 18 mg per day for adult women) they should take for healthy hemoglobin content.
Indian Women's Health When in comes to women, there are wide range of Health issues that need to be taken care of. It is important to recognize the health aspects which are specific and relate to only women. Though there are issues which both men and women share but there are certain differences as in the gender, the women have their specific issues. Some of the common Women's health issues that need to be looked into are: • Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) : Few women suffer from this syndrome where there are symptoms like anxiety, tension, irritability and stress. • Menopause : There are few women who get premature menopause where the menses stop before the actual time. There are various reasons for this issue such as chemotherapy with menopause as side effect, and exposure to radiation. • Dysmenorrhea : This is a condition where the women suffer from pain during menstruation rather than before the cycle begins. The pain can be of any amplitude and can be radiating to different parts of body such as thighs and lower back. • Hormonal problems : Many women suffer from hormonal disturbances which are the reason for many disorders. So steps should be taken to maintain normal hormonal levels to have healthy menstrual cycle and fertilization. • Keeping a check on iron levels : Since women undergo menstrual cycles and there is lot of blood loss, the iron content from the body is lost along with the blood. So more iron is required for new cell formation. This increases the demand of iron in the body. So women require more iron content than what men do. Women with lower iron content suffer from anemia which can be of various levels. The information on women’s health is limited as the women’s body is said to be much more complicated than men’s. Most of the women prefer natural ways of dealing with the health issues as they have little side effects.
