As per the new measure known as the Multi-dimensional Poverty Index (MPI) developed by UNDP acute poverty prevails in eight Indian states which include Bihar, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. An analysis by its creators reveals that there are more than MPI poor people in 8 Indian states (421 million) than in the 26 poorest African countries combined (410 millions). They account for more poor people as compared to 26 poorest African Nations combined.

This is quite a grave issue which only shows how our politicians and bureaucrats care about our rural places. Government must now start concentrating on these poor people and places and start bringing them to a proper livelihood because its enough of growth and development we have seen in urban places and now its the turn of these untouched places.

despite such statistics we fail to understand that the growth numbers we find in terms of percentages are not the real indicators of growth taking place in India. We fail to analyze the actual growth taking place in the rural and sub urban parts of India which is the reason why we have states poorer than African nation. Do you agree?
