Rampant corruption and indifference to people is not new in India. It has become an intrinsic trait of the Indian political and India's social system and the hapless Indian populace has become acquainted with the same completely. But what shocks the commoners is the association of inhumanity with it and the same is happening in India at the moment. In accordance with latest media reports, food grains are rotting in different parts of the country and the extent of the same is such that it can feed in excess of one Crore of hungry and Poor Indians. What a catastrophe in a poverty-ridden country like India!

Mr Sharad Pawar, Union minister for agriculture, has been crying with regard to deficiency of storage facilities, mostly regarding bumper Rabi crop that has started to turn up. As per the Indian Agriculture minister, insufficiency of storage facilities is giving rise to rotting of food grains. If the pertinent reports or investigations are taken into consideration, it is no longer a secret that Indian food grains worth Rs 58,000 crore lost on account of lack of Bad storage facilities. Don’t get astounded but this does amount to 10 per cent of the entire food grain production.

This is not the end of the India's sad story. Reports do state with conviction that India, instead of sub-Saharan Africa, has become the new capital of food shortage or starvation. Hunger, believe it or not, claims lives of one million children, if not more annually. All these point out that the tales regarding demographic advantage of India (popularized by government-funded and government-aided agencies exclusively) is nothing but a fairy tale. As per available reports, 61 million children happen to be inferior in size. Again, while 25mn are devastated, 42 per cent of the world’s half-starved children subsist in India.

Indian government must adopt adequate measures to make use of rotting food grains for these children, at least. Now the question is whether this is possible ever. If not, we must stop boasting democratic principles and the need of accountability in society. Both Indian government and we are basically criminals.

Rotting food grains in India must be distributed among poor or else it’s a crime

the dirty politicians besides being corrupt in terms of money, are careless and unethical too. i think even they know that one million people die of hunger in india, so why can't they just build proper store houses for the grains. loads of money is being wasted in rallies, in constructing homes for ministers, and loads of money is being laundered as black money. moreover cant the excess food grains be distributed for free to the poor?? mr pawar says it cannot be distributed freely but it can be given at low prices to poor. it was an absurd answer from such a high personality. what do u think?

it shows us how responsible our politicians are, who after seeing lots of food grain rot, give lame and stupid replies to the public on media. they should be put behind bars for this. so much money is being taken from public as tax, so much money is being taken from RBI, and not a penny is spent to construct a proper storehouse for food grains?? politicians have money to construct huge mansions and buy costly cars but cannot order to construct storehouse for food grains.. what a shame.

After watching the videos of food grains rotting outside in the rains, one cannot blame the farmers or the agricultural sector for not doing their job in increasing the productivity. It is the government's responsibility to store those grains in proper storehouses with adequate cleanliness. The blame goes purely to the government who is irresponsible on this issue not bothering about the food which could be atleast given free of cost to the poor who die out of starvation.

Our indian food grains are rotten due to the rain and other reasons. Many of the Hungry Children In India are dieing due to starvation. India has great number of hungry children, about double of sub Saharan Africa, ranking 94th in Global Hunger Index 2007 out of 118 countries conducted by International Food Policy Research Institute. Most of such children belong to poorer families like SC/STs and Dalits.

There are nations which have cold storage facilities which helps us to store food for extensively long periods without any rotting. But leave alone this, we do not even have proper warehousing/shelter to protect food from drenching in the rain. i guess government must soon act on this!
