The Kohinoor diamond has a rich history behind it has changed hands many a times before finding a palace in the London museum. The “Kohinoor” means “mountain of light” and it was possessed by many rulers (Hindu, Mughal, Sikh, Afgans and British) during the course of history until finally the British East India Company seized the diamond and took it away. Not only India who was at the receiving end of such a loot, there were other countries (China, Peru, Mexico and Bolivia) too. ASI (Archeological survey of India) which oversees the nation’s heritage and antiquities has joined hands with international network to initiate an array of steps (diplomatic and legal) to bring back the Kohinoor diamond which was taken away during the colonial rule. Just a week back the prime minister of United Kingdom, DAVID CAMEROON, made a three day trip to India. The issues that were discussed were mostly related to diplomatic negotiations and media interviews. Apart from important social and economic issues, and related business matters one extremely vital topic was raised during his trip, and that is related to the Kohinoor diamond. While the prime minister was very forthcoming and intelligent in replying, in a candid manner to the issues pertaining to business and economics between India and UK, but when it came to the question of the Kohinoor and the issue of giving back the diamond to the country where it originally belonged (INDIA), the prime minister decided to play it to the gallery. He said handing over the diamond to India would mean the museums in London would run empty and loss of revenue for British Government. If this statement of the PM is anything to go by, then the dream, of Kohinoor coming back to the country where it originally belongs looks a distant one.
to be very true, getting our very own kohinoor is a dream seeing the conditions right now. for instance, some months back some of the memoirs of Mahatma Gandhi were on auction in UK but our government had not that budget to get those treasures back to our nation but then the liqour baron of india, vijay mallya got them back spending from his own pocket. this is enough to prove that if the people of india want then we can get the kohinoor of our country back to india.
Kohinoor should come back India is a rich country. People like Mukesh Ambani, Rattan Tata etc stand among the top most richest people of the world. So getting back the ancient treasures back from the invaders is not impossible. Kohinoor belongs to India and I believe it should be brought back to India at any cost. People should join hands with the government.
getting the precious kohinoor back is not a big deal, all we have to do is work collectively. if big powers of india and indian government join hands and start working to get it back, the days are not far to have kohinoor here in our own museums. it is a part of indian heritage and it has no work lying in some english museum.
Kohinoor Diamond has Indian historic past, India's right, India's pride and emotions of one billion Indians are associated with it. So, there can be no ambiguity on India's sole justified right on Kohinoor Diamond. India deserved it in the History, India deserve it now and will in future. So, it will be a goodwill gesture on the part of England if they rectify their mistake of holding shamelessly others asset and return Kohinoor Diamond to India.
Kohinoor is just like a token now. In my view it is not a big deal, we have many more bigger issues even in bilateral relations with Foreign countries.
most of the top rich persons are from india. the political power has got its influence. if both of them join hands and make efforts to get the precious kohinoor back, it would not be tough task at all. india has got proofs that the stone is of indian origin and britishers took it away. it should be lying in indian museum for display.
