Just couple of days ahead of the Climate Summit in Copenhagen, the Indian government has dropped hints that the country may announce upto 25% carbon emissions cut based on its economic growth levels in the next few days. Talking to reporters after meeting Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao in Beijing, Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said that the government would soon make an official announcement regarding the same. Ramesh also said that India had been pressurised by Beijing, after the latter annouced a massive emission cut target upto 45% by 2020. The minister added that India have no other option right now, than to cut the carbon emissions. Ramesh along with the Chinese premier said that they would not allow any third party to review its carbon emission reduction, adding, "We (India and China) are on the same page as far as negotiations are concerned but not as far as emissions are concerned. China today is the world's leading carbon emitter, while India is on the fifth position." Now it is to be seen what kind of deal will be reached at Copenhagen meeting to replace the Kyoto protocol.
