The controversy over lokpal bill is heating up. The representatives of the Jan Lokpal Bill drafting committee are firm on their stand that the Chief Justice of India and Prime Minister of India should be under the Lokpal while the Government of India officials believe that it would render them inactive if charges of corruption pop up against them. There are several views about this among general Indian public (as I guessed from comments to the relevant articles written on leading national newspapers). Civil society representative Arvind Kerajiwal said that if Prime Minister is excluded from Jan Lokpal then it would immediately exclude 10 departments that function under him. It would be interesting to hear what Proud Indians think about the issue and controversy over lokpal bill . Justify your stand.
lokpal has long been surrounded by controversies. since the bill targets all the corrupt people and ironically the people who have to pass it are themselves corrupt, it becomes pretty obvious thing that there would be reluctance in passing the bill. i guess once again people should protest against the slow actions being taken up by the governments end.
After reading the entire Lokpal Bill, many scholars have come to a conclusion, that it has the makings of a Power Monster. An article in the Hindu newspaper shed light on this. Lokpal will be autonomous and even the Judiciary will be observed by it. If there is no watchdog for an institution of such a big proportion then it is only logical that chances of it becoming corrupt increase. Passing a Bill is not an easy task. Of course, the government is largely corrupt and they need to save their faces as well. But, if the Government goes wrong in passing the Bill we would face adverse effects for years to come. Read the entire Lokpal Bill and you will know how much an independent body like it can be misused. It can easily become a power monster with no one to control it. Adding and Ombudsman to it is a welcome change in the lokpal bill, but there are other finer intricacies that too need to be considered.
the debate on this topic has vast diversity, people are with different thoughts, for now two ideologies are being pursued. one being the PM should come under the purview of lokpal bill, or should he be excluded for having higher privileges in the country.. many of the public are of the view that no one should be spared and even PM should be included...what is your view on this?
