ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) has recently started to give away a new set of Top Level Domains which include the generic names. One of the bidders for such TLD is L'Oreal which has bid for .beauty as TLD which would be privately owned by it. Now, with this, no other person/company can have .beauty as their TLD. L'Oreal has bid an amount of $ 1,85,000 for this TLD. Do you think, ICANN which is a NPO, with a responsibility to protect public interest should go on by offering such TLDs at high prices in order to maximize its revenues?
