While buying hatchback cars in India, there are not much options available in the market and most of these cars comes with similar design and features. However, Hyundai Motors have tried their best to give the best compact and premium hatchback car. Hyundai has recently launched the i10 Garnd, which fits aptly between Hyundai's i20 and i10. Hyundai’s first, locally produced, small three-cylinder diesel engine which will, for the first time, give the company direct access into the relatively untapped small diesel hatchback segment in India. i10 grand Design When it comes to design, i10 Grand has the same "Fluidic" style and it has a better and crisper design and looks much better than i20. Although, it has a slight similarity with Alto 800 as it has big hexagonal lower air vent but looks much better. Surrounding it are large and angular fog-lamp inserts and a sharp crease just below that ends in a tiny chin spoiler. A smart, single-slat grille complements the tapering headlamps and adds a touch of sleekness to the front. The best part are the wheels, which Hyundai calls ‘diamond-cut’ alloy wheels. The wheels have optional two-tone eight-spoke alloys , which gives an elegant look to it. The highlight of the rear really is the wraparound tail-lamps and the large reflectors embedded in the rear bumper do look unique. i10 grand Interiors The i10 Grand is quite comfortable leather-wrapped steering wheel and audio controls. Hyundai has also made sure all the ‘touch-points’ exude a nice premium feel. The buttons are well damped and all the rotary knobs are treated with a premium knurled finish that further adds a touch of class to the cabin. What is surprising though is that even on the highest spec car, Hyundai has omitted climate control and given a manual air-con instead. Also, while the HVAC controls are large and within easy reach, they are quite stiff and clunky to operate. It has a clean dash board and the top half is finished in high-quality, non-reflective black plastic. The gear lever has superb detailing as well with a glass finish and the gear numbers written in a clean metallic finish. The car provides enough legroom, which makes travelling in this hatchback car comfortable. It also comes with two 12V outlets. Technology , Engine and fuel efficiency The Hyundai Grand i10 is the U2 1120cc, three-cylinder engine which makes its debut in this car. The engine has a five-speed manual gearbox and it is a fine piece of machinery with short and precise throws and well-sorted ratios. While driving in the city, users does not have to fiddle much with the gearstick and on the highway, the Grand i10 will cruise happily at 100kph with the engine spinning at just 2,400 revolutions. The diesel-engined Grand i10 claims to have an impressive fuel economy figure of 24kpl. It gave 15.4kpl in city driving conditions and 19.6kpl on the highway, which is pretty much on the same lines as its competitors. It is quite a fuel efficient car. An overall figure of 17.5kpl combined with a 43-litre fuel tank gives the Grand i10 a phenomenal range of 750 kilometres on a single tank of diesel.
