    HTC brings to you 601 smartphone from the Desire series. This phone comes in both dual-SIM and single SIM, which allows you to choose according to your requirements. The new HTC smartphone comes bundled with advanced features like large screen, long battery life, dual frontal stereo speakers with built-in amplifiers and much more. This phone comes within the price bracket of Rs. 25,000 in India. Here is a detailed review of this new Smartphone from HTC.

    Design and Display


    The HTC 601 comes in a bar form factor with curved edges, which lends a smart look to this new phone. This phone comes with a rubber coating, which gives a soft-feel and comes in a compact design as well it is very lightweight. The buttons are placed on the sides of the phone, which works fairly fine and are easy to operate. The phone features a 3.5 mm stereo audio jack, which allows connecting compatible headphones, headsets and earphones. The Desire 601 has a micro SIM card slot and the dual-SIM has two, which enables users to use two different SIM cards over two different GSM networks. Furthermore, this phone boast of a 4.5 inch large qHD display, which enhances the visual effect, enabling users to view the objects on the screen with utmost clarity. However, the screen resolution being 540x960 pixels, the pixel density is quite reduced, which is a disappointing thing. Nevertheless, the phone is equipped with an IPS display panel, which offers a good visibility even outside.

    Processor and Operating system

    The new phone from HTC is powered by Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 400, dual-core processor, which has a clock rate of 1.4 GHz, which ensures decent performance. The performance of this phone is further enhanced by the 1 GB RAM, which allows smooth function of the phone even while multitasking. The single SIM phone comes with an internal memory of 8 GB, which can be further expanded up to 64 GB using a microSD card. The internal memory of 8 GB that can be further expanded is sufficient enough for storing ample applications, games and other important data on the phone. However, the dual-SIM variant has a reduced internal memory of up to 4GB, which expanded up to 64 GB using a microSD card. It runs on Android based operating system with HTC’s Sense technology. This makes the phone user-friendly as well as application friendly.

    Multimedia


    The HTC Desire 601 is bundled with multimedia features, which is intended to enhance the experience of users. This phone is loaded with HTC BoomSound, which features dual frontal stereo speakers with built-in amplifiers to deliver high-quality sound. It also has HTC BlinkFeed feature, which flashes the feeds and notifications of the Homescreen of the phone, making it easy for users to keep a track of what is going around. Furthermore, it comes with HTC Zoe™ photo, which allows capturing of images by collecting a series of pictures and adds movement to capture a complete one. This feature also enables users to record short movies and also allows editing of images captured and videos recorded without using any additional software. This Smartphone comes with a 5 megapixel camera on the rear that has features like auto focus, BSI sensor, Continuous shooting, Smart Flash, VideoPic, HTC Image Chip and Panorama to further enhance the photography experience. The lens of the camera equipped in this phone has an aperture of F2.0 along with a focal length of 28mm, which seems to be good enough to capture images with clarity. This phone also features a VGA front camera to allow video calling. This phone supports a number of audio formats like aac, .amr, .ogg, .m4a, .mid, .mp3, .wav, .wma (Windows Media Audio 9) along with video formats that comprise 3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .wmv (Windows Media Video 9), .avi (MP4 ASP and MP3).

    Connectivity, Sensors and Battery

    This new Smartphone from HTC comes with multiple connectivity options that allow users to connect this phone with different compatible devices. The phone boast of Bluetooth® 4.0 with aptX, Wi-Fi®, DLNA® and GPS/AGPS+GLONASS, besides a micro USB port that allows connecting to different devices for transferring data. Besides these, the 601 dual-SIM supports 2G/ 2.5G - GSM/GPRS/EDG: 900/1800/1900 MHz networks, while the Single SIM phone supports 2G/ 2.5G - GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, 3G/ 3.5G - UMTS/ HSPA: EMEA: 900/1900/2100MHz with HSPA+ up to 42 Mbps and 4G - LTE: EMEA: 800/900/1800/2600 MHz The Single SIM 601 phone is equipped with sensors like ambient light sensor, accelerometer and proximity sensor. However, the 601 Dual-SIM misses out on this feature. Both the phone comes with a powerful Li-polymer 2100mAh battery, which offers a good talk time with a single charge.

    Conclusion

    After a detailed review of both the variants of Desire 601 from HTC, it can be concluded that the Single SIM phone is a better option than the dual-SIM as it comes with some additional features like sensors, supports 3G as well as LTE networks and has a better internal storage. However, being a mid-range phone, Desire 601 is a good choice for those who wants to own a feature rich phone at a reasonable price.
