While most people are abandoning the desktop computers and resorting to laptops and tablets, high-end gaming is perhaps the only area where a desktop is still used which cannot be beaten by laptops and tablets as it has performance balanced with price. Besides gamers, there are still some old-schoolers, and professionals who still remain loyal to the desktop computers due to expertise, performance and/or feature demands, and upgradability. Moreover, owing to it immobility feature, it has always been a choice for educational institutions and offices. Even if the desktop platform is no longer the center of the computing Technology world for many, People in India still buy them and enough vendors still sell them to sustain a diverse market. Here is a guide to help you in buying the right desktop Computer :

    Purpose is important

Knowing the purpose of buying a desktop is essential as it makes the task of choosing the right desktop easier. If you want to buy a desktop for the purpose of gaming, it is important that it is equipped with a powerful processor, has high-end features, etc. However, if you want to buy a desktop for official purpose, the configuration will vary. However, to choose the right desktop, knowing the purpose of buying is very essential.

    Budget

Another important aspect is your budget. These devices are generally heavy on pockets, so it is important to decide the amount you can spend and accordingly you can buy a desktop. Remember that the configuration of your desktop will depend on your budget so, make an estimation of the amount you can spend along with the purpose.

    Processor

CPU of a desktop PC is the processor, which powers the desktop and is responsible for its performance. Power users need the best, and that means quad-core. AMD's Phenom line and Intel's Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Extreme, and newest Core i7 families of processors offer four-core solutions that will give you maximum power and the best possible safety as you do not have to fear from extinction. However, it is important that you choose a processor according to your requirement. For high-end gaming, an Intel’s Core i7 processor is required, which is supported by graphics processor that has a dedicated memory of minimum 1 GB. But, for a desktop that will be used for surfing the Internet or any kind of documentation or for personal use, a low powered processor will as well work fine.

    RAM or Random Access Memory

Don’t commit the mistake of buying a desktop that has a random access memory or RAM of less than 2 GB. For installing any new OS on your Desktop, you will at least require RAM of 2GB. It is mandatory to check to see whether your machine uses DDR2 or newer DDR3 RAM as it is used exclusively with Intel's new Core i7 family of processors that can operate at faster speeds but is little expensive, and you can't use DDR2 RAM in DDR3 sockets, which might cause problems if you want to upgrade later. Also check the RAM speeds, measured in megahertz (MHz) because higher the rated speed, the better is the performance of the RAM but make sure that your motherboard supports the speed.

    Display

Display is one of the most important aspects of a PC. It is quite likely that you will want a monitor that takes advantage of the power of your graphics card. Look for a wide-screen LCD monitor measuring at least 20 inches. Apart from the screen size it is also essential to check the screen resolution as well as the pixel response time of the LCD monitor as it is deemed that lower the number, smoother is the picture quality and gamers generally prefer 6-millisecond or faster pixel-response rate.

    Hard disk drive

Hard disk drive is the storage capacity of the desktop like a tablet or a Smartphone. Besides the storage capacity of the hard disk drive, it is important to check the rotational speed of it as the better your system will respond, and the quicker your applications and games will start. Besides the HDD of your desktop, make sure that there is an optical drive that supports writing and reading from DVD and CD media.

    Sound System

If you want to buy a desktop for gaming purpose or for some kind of creative work like video editing, sound mixing etc., having a dedicated sound card is essential. Besides, make sure that the speakers are included in the price that you will be paying for the desktop and these speakers can churn out the maximum from the sound card that is equipped. Most top cards support immersive 7.1-channel surround sound; however, the number of speakers that you want to buy is your choice.

These are some of the aspects that needs to be considered while buying a desktop PC/ Computer.
