Honour killing to keep on in India- Nowadays a new term is getting lots of media attentions and it is nothing other than honour killings. It may be the term is new to you and being a self-claimed intellectual residing in any Indian metropolis; you have got confused a lot owing to the same. Well, I am also baffled due to the same albeit not alien to the definition of this societal saga. Prior to that let me clarify that honour killing is not any new development. On the contrary, it has been existing in almost every culture, religion, ethnicity across the globe even though its intensity is higher in the sphere of South Asia. Honor killing, to put it briefly, happens to be the slaying of a (especially female) family or clan member by the family members, wherein the perpetrators (and potentially the wider community) consider the victim to have brought dishonour upon the family, clan, or community. Well, this consideration differs from person to person or from clan to clan. It may ne anything like marrying a person of the enemy clan, getting involved with illegal carnal relation or marrying a person of the same Ghotra (lineage o clan according to the Hinduism). The last one has been getting more and more prominent in the length and breadth of India. Even though length and breadth of India has been mentioned, North Indian states like Punjab, Rajasthan and Bihar remain stronghold of the same. Only in the last month of June, one of the most gruesome incidents happened in the Indian state of Haryana that did surpass all other incidents of honor killings. Monika (18) and her lover Rinku (19), both from Jat families, were viciously killed for honour at Nimriwali village, near Bhiwani, Haryana. The father of the girl, her brother, uncle and cousins, till the last report, alleged as main perpetrators, have been absconding. What is most horrific, the two lovers were hanged as exhibits in their house for the village to see their "fate." Is there any justification? Does our Hindu Religion support such brutal acts? Well, who cares for the Dharma! Honor killing is related more too social clout and less to the religion. What is the Indian government doing then? It is yet to get acquainted with the changing reality! Even if it becomes, nothing is going to happen. The government structure remains vulnerable to the whims of power and muscles. What’s the solution then? Honour killing is going to be in full swing.
honour killing listen honour wont become the dominant one. already a lot of ngo's are working on it. they are tryin to increase awareness abt it. wat you say wont happen because if it happens the opposition definately question the govt. there will be protests all over the country. govt will then act. there are no chances of it being in full swing. that's sumthin really silly to imagine.
Even though none of the religion support such a brutal act but honor killing is just a way to set examples for those wards who go against their parent's will.I personally don't favor or promote honor killing but at the same time it is impossible to fuel people about its evil impact on society and country as a whole.Because if we talk about India and Indian Families, the first priority goes to the Dignity, then after preference to emotions is given. But thinking logically and literally,Honor killing is not any justified way of granting punishment. And I'm still wondering about that creature on this planet who named it "HONOR killing" ..where is the honor left after committing such a shameful act!
Honor killings in india have been rampant since long time. Even though india is developing in many aspects, it remains backward due to such superstitious acts as honor killings. People are killed in order to satisfy deities to prevent the sin committed by the accused, affecting other members of clan. All this should be rationalized and prevented by educating people
Honor killing in India Terming love marriage as honor killing for families is a primitive thought. Even we talk about culture and tradition, then also just pick up the epic and you find that then also alliances happened only as love marriages. People here are just running after fake and rotten concepts, which actually have no meaning and gravity.
Honour killings in the world have been rampant since long time. At least, the Indian government is taking actions against it. In other parts of the world, the police do not even register cases. Search on honour killing in Pakistan and you will be shocked to know the situation. Honour killing has nothing to do with Hinduism and it is a matter of custom. There are Hindus in USA, UK, Mauritius, do they still practice honour killing or continue to suppress women as in ancient times. The answer is definitely NO.
...Honour Killing is not gender specific....there are many examples where couple is brutally killed. I wonder why feminism is inserted, emphasized in every issue possible. Apart from Police (very less to control huge population) the concept of "Civil Police" should also be strengthen allover India especially in Rural and remote areas. Report of such cases are more in few areas....special policies, staff, volunteers to educate, spread awareness, etc should be framed for such areas.
honor killings in india are quite rampant as some people in regions like haryana, bihar, madhya pradesh, are mostly orthodox where they stick to their age old beliefs. indian government should arrange special laws and make them stringent to combat whole bunch of people who are involved in honor killings. people should be punished strongly so as to prevent further killings in that area.
Honor killing is increasing very rapidly in the backward area where people are orthodox and conservative and think that by killing someone from their family they can retain their reputation in the family intact. Honor killing usually happens when a girl or a boy does love marriage from some other caste or elope with either one, then the head of the family kills the particular person of their family to retain the name of their family in the society. This is the fastest growing evil and must be banned by the government.
Honor killing is a common practice among people of remotest places like Hariyana, Rajisthan and other parts of the nation. This is an evil which is taking place at great speed. Government should take actions against those people who do so and must be banned anyhow.
its just the detrimental mentality of some people which drives them to do such acts. no civilized society would support honor killings, for it is very heinous act in itself. i dont find any honor where a person is killed without his or her fault to the extent that he or she deserves a death penalty. most of times the honor killing case is because of run away marriages or love marriages. i think police department must take people into custody who pose such a threat to the target.
It is indeed a detrimental mentality of the community people and its taking height in indian community especially the hariyana side and rural areas. People are more concerned about their reputation then the life of tehir loved ones. Honor killing should be banned by the government as it is the main evil taht is increasing day by day in rural areas and people who have orthodox mentality.
it is sad to know that we still have honor killings rampant in our developed nation. we cannot call ourselves civilized or developed if such activities are rampant. government and non government authorities should take a strong stand against such activities and make strong laws to prevent the same.
honor killing is the sick thinking that gives way to killing one self and people who assaulted the honor of a few conservative people in the community. It is the disease of those few conservative minds that cannot see the happiness and find reasons to kill their girl or a boy.honor killing is done mostly in rigid places and areas such as karal, hariyaa, rajashthan and all rural places where the thinking of old people is conservative and they cannot see any harm done to their reputation in the community.
Honor Killings: Many parts in northern India, being a bigoted society and intolerant to any violation of their rigid decorum code, reports cases of honor killing, for punishing anyone who tends to spoil their family reputation. These killings are practiced in Haryana, Punjab, western UP and even sanctioned socially by the caste panchayats.
Killing in the name of bringing dishonor to the family or society as a whole is an act of shame. The law of the nation do not permit any one to kill their fellow beings. Govenment should take steps and make stern laws so that people cannot dare to carry out such a disgraceful act. Media should be equally vigilant and the police should take necessary action against such acts.
Honor Killing is a social evil that exist in many states of India. It is killing of young people in the name of honor or rather it is brutal murder. It is totally illegal as our nation do not permit killing anyone and it punishable under law. However, it is still persisting in the states of Haryana, Punjab etc and more than 1,000 people are brutally murdered every year in the name of honour. It is now time to wake up and fight against it and the stern legislation should be made and rigorous punishment should be given in such cases.
Killing in the name of honor cannot be justified. Honor Killing is prevalent in the states of Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan etc. Young girls and boys are killed in the name of honor and for bringing disgrace to the family and society at large. The girls and boys are killed if they marry someone from the same village or same caste against the wish of their parents. It is a social evil that needs to be uprooted from the society and stern laws must me made to prohibit such inhuman activities.
Honor Killing is mainly prevalent in the states of Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan and many cases are still been registered for killing of a family member whether girl or a boy for bringing disgrace to the family. This is total violation of Article 21 of the Constitution that provides the fundamental right of right to life. It is real an evil practice and needs to be abolished at an earliest.
I agree with you that Honor Killing is an evil practice and is infringement of Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. However, it still exist in our society. Many Indian states especially Haryana is well known for it and have killed many young boys and girls claiming to bring dishonor to the family and society. These societies normally kill those who fall in love with one another of the same clan or place as they are considered as siblings. But this is utter injustice. There is no law that prohibits marriage between people of the same place and clan. This can only be stopped by abolishing Khap Panchayats and educating the people in the right way.
