India is still making laws that are gender biased. The new IrBM bill which stands for Irretrievable Breakdown of Marriage bill. It is a complete gender biased bill. According to this bill a wife can file for divorce and the husband cannot challenge her petition for divorce. If the husband applies for divorce, it can be challenged and stopped by the wife. Moreover the wife will receive 50 percent of the husband's property at the time of divorce irrespective of the tenure of the marriage and when the property was bought. A group of Indians are protesting against this bill in UK to make it gender neutral. Do u think this bill is justified and India should make laws that are not gender biased?
I do not think that the new IrBM bill is justified and i agree with you that India should make laws that are not gender biased. Indian Constitution talks about right to equality as well as prohibits gender discrimination but the laws that are made, especially the laws based on Hindu personal laws are mostly gender biased. How can it be justified that husband cannot challenge a divorce petition filed by the wife and wife can challenge it? The bill itself seemed to be totally flawed and cannot be justified.
