Fasting, Feasting by Anita Desai is a book where the author tells the story of natural and lumpish Uma and the esteemed, late-born Arun, daughter and son of strict and conservative parents. The book is quite unique as it offers very little description, narrow focus and no emotions and needs. The author in this book is successful in her attempt of using radiant pat, simple language, simple composition, but at the same time addresses some major issues and makes a point. The book is worth reading and is quite thought provoking.
