Courtesy is most important to safe driving. The courteous driver is considerate about his own actions and how they would affect the ones in front of him, beside and behind him.

Remember a few basics to safe driving, which is nothing but commonsense and consideration to others: A good driver is one who

    1. Signals his turns

    2. Makes his stops smoothly

    3. Gradually pulls into the right lane before making a turn

    4. An alert driver knows his speed limits and does not sneak in when the signal has just turned RED

    5. He looks before he backs into or out of a parking space and parks carefully

    6. The wise driver dims his headlights the minute another car approaches

    7. Horns to be used in emergencies only. It is considered ill mannered to persistently honk, knowing fully well that there is no movement of vehicles ahead of you.

    8. When there is an accident however minor the scrape or a major injury, please stop and complete necessary formalities instead of getting into arguments, trying to escape out of a situation or blame the other party when you are guilty.

    9. Drinking and Driving is not only a major offence, but the prudent man knows his life is equally in danger owing to drunken driving.

    10. Cell phones should be used hands free, only when necessary. It causes distraction while driving and slows down presence of mind and reflexes in an emergency owing to preoccupation

    11. Overtaking on a single lane when there is no way of seeing anything travelling towards you owing to dips, turns or bends is the most foolish thing to do.

    12. Playing chicken in and out, while overtaking is better restricted to stunt movies not everyday lives.

    13. Indicators must always be used properly and ensure they function, traffic lights are meant to be observed not skip and speed along.

    14. Do not drive 2 inches from the car in front of you. It ceases to be funny when you bump and get into a scrap.

Finally, drive safe, your life is precious and make driving for yourself and others a pleasant journey!!

i think these driving etiquettes should be made a part of the driving tests which are taken during assessment of the candidate for issue of driving license. this will definitely help people to drive vehicles more safely and properly. this would also reduce the number of accidents. and the place where all its citizens practice these etiquettes would also bring a nice look on the roads.

these are good bunch of directions which will help driving in india be safer and smarter. i think every indian should know these etiquettes and these should be included in the schooling so that everyone learns about them. atleast some of the accidents due to rude and rash driving of people can be averted if these are practiced by us.
