Indian women have been victim of various crime done by the male members of the society. Nevertheless, Indian laws have tried to protect women from various crimes. Even the Indian Constitution from article 12 to 35 is related to Women and her rights. There are acts like Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 etc, yet it is not able to provide total protection to women. They are still victims of cruelty. What are your views in this regard? Do Indian Laws Protect Women?

Numerous laws has been made to protect women from being victims of cruelty. Even the personal laws provide protection and rights to women. However, despite of the enactment of various laws and statues, Indian women are still considered as a material object and not as a human being and they are still subjected to cruelty. Although section 376 of IPC provides punishment for rape, still women are being raped every now and then and the accused are moving free. It is sad but Indian laws have failed drastically in protecting women from being victims of various crimes.

Women have always been considered as the most vulnerable section of the society and they have been victims of many social evils and crimes since time unknown. Several laws have been made to protect women from beings victims of various crimes but unfortunately, Indian laws have failed to protect women and they are still the victim of existing social evils and crimes.

Definitely, Indian Laws protect women and this is visible with the enactment of several laws related to women. Indian law also provides maintenance facility for divorced women which is a way to make her life secured. Indian law cannot be blamed for the increasing crime against women but it is the patriarchal society who is to be blamed for such crimes and violence against women.
