Recently I was reading an article that described the pathetic conditions of the sex workers in India and it left me just numb when I read the terrible life conditions of these people. The sex workers think that they would earn a livelihood by selling sex services but at the same time are aware of the fact that their lives would become hell after this, they are treated as isolated, down trodden, and even cannot afford any privilege or rights. Sex workers are completely aloof and recently many cases of drug abuse and suicides have been found among them. It is really tough for the prostitutes to make a living even after putting their every bit at stake. The children of the sex workers are insecure and isolated as nobody wants to talk to them in school and surroundings. This is certainly a saddening issue of the Indian society, firstly it compels the women to move into such profession, it makes the life so miserable for them that they do not see any other option for earning a livelihood and then at the end it pushes away them from its rest of the people. There is a need to raise voice against such a discriminated treatment towards the sex workers; something should be done to make their lives if not completely then little better. Improving the conditions of the sex workers in the country is not something that can happen in a day. It will take time and a lot of effort. It needs to start at the grass root level. First of all, the attitude towards sex needs to be changed. It is nothing bad. It is natural. This will require a lot of public campaigns. Second, the attitude towards the sex workers needs to be changed. They are as much human beings as you and I. They have feelings, emotions, needs and rights too!
