The book Cosmic Love and Human Apathy by Jyotirmaya Sharma is a precious addition to the existing research on one of India's greatest religious and social icons. It is the story of this split of Swami Vivekananda, who was the chosen disciple of Sri Ramakrishna to spread his master's message across the world. However, the actual fact that is provided in the book is that after Ramakrishna's death in 1886, Vivekananda not only changed the devotional importance of the new frugal order from Kali to Shiva, he also clinched to a world far apart from Ramakrishna's. The essays in this volume studies Vivekananda's formulation of Hinduism as religion: the most perfect interpretation of Hinduism in modern history. This book is controversial but a must read book, which offers a great insight.
