Commonwealth Games 2010 corruption shames India.Perhaps there is no more need to define Commonwealth Games. It is regarded as one of the greatest multinational, multi-sport events across the globe that does feature contests entailing thousands of elite athletes from members of the Commonwealth of Nations or erstwhile members of the British Empire. It would certainly have been happier had the entire saga ended here. But it can’t be in any way since the Commonwealth Games 2010, set to initiate in the month of October in New Delhi, has got involved with an irreparable chronicle of corruption, worldwide news already. The Indian new media has already termed the Commonwealth Games 2010, India's pride and a manifestation of its capabilities, as a novel spectacle of corruption.

Well, the credit, in this context, goes to the Chief Vigilance Commission or CVC. This exceedingly reputable organization, in its reports, does point out corruption at each echelon in the organization of the Commonwealth Games. In accordance with CVC report, nearly all organizations carrying through infrastructure jobs for Commonwealth Games have contravened rules in tenders and this can be found from the fact that they did increase their prices without qualms. What does this indicate? Contractors have been paid to a greater extent than what they do deserve. There have been other amazing findings as well. Though higher rates were paid, these did fail to improve the rates of work. On the contrary, work has purportedly been delayed to a large extent and it must be taken into account that quality has been squared off at all places.

Take this assessment of CVC into account. In accordance with its report, there is hardly any assurance of quality of the work done and the one and only reason is that test records have been doctored in order to depict conformity.

There is something more. Chief Vigilance Commission is confident that the quality of concrete made use of in infrastructure job in an assortment of stadiums has failed to meet up the prerequisite of strength. Is this all? Not at all but the tip of iceberg!

True! I feel very sad when I hear such news related to CWG Delhi, 2010. My cousin brother and few friends are volunteers in those games. I feel awful for those hardworking yet small units. Worst thing is Delhi Government's statements...they are so casual and they extend deadlines so easily.

Only thing I wish is that media should postpone it's campaign and let the CWG over. Yes, this is defensive approach but still......

These are some of the exclusive pictures of commonwealth games village in Delhi, which the Delhi government has kept for the foreign officials. "Atithi devo bhava". That is my incredible India doing to make us all proud.Has our government ever thought how will a fellow Indian walk with his head high when when he travel abroad ?

The level of morality amongst the Indian Politicians has fallen so much in 6 decades that they are not bothered about what happens to national prestige. All that is important for them is looting money. It is more important to be in possession of Millions, not where it came from. It does not matter that you jeopardized national prestige to Earn this money. Yes, another thing has also changed: the tolerance level of Indians. Not that we were ever an intolerant Nation But now you have greater tolerance to wrong doing. It does not matter that shameless politicians could be sitting in important positions in the country. Delhi Government and central government is responsible for all this corrupt .It is their responsibility to keep check on corruption.

My Question is - Why we Indians elect corrupt Politicians ?

Things can change for good only when heads start rolling whenever a man made catastrophe occurs, be it railway accidents, acts of terrorism, CWG fiasco .

People bestowed with resposibilities will behave when there is a threat of fixing of resposibility and punishment hangs over their heads like a democles sword.

CBI arrested former CWG chief Suresh Kalmadi

The CBI today arrested former the CWG chief, Suresh Kalmadi, in connection with irregularities in the contract for the Queen's Baton Relay.

Earlier, Suresh Kalmadi was questioned by the CBI over alleged irregularities in the conduct of Queen's Baton Relay held in London in 2009.

The Central Bureau of Investigation first questioned Kalmadi on January 5.

The agency had asked Kalmadi, sacked as chairman of the Common Wealth Games organising committee, to appear before it in order to clarify some new issues which surfaced during the visit of the agency's officials to London in connection with QBR scam.

Kalmadi had earlier expressed his inability to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation citing his foreign visit, saying he would return home only after April 19. But even after returning from his visit abroad, he did not turn up before the agency saying he was still not in Delhi.

Earlier on February 23, the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Kalmadi' key aides Lalit Bhanot and VK Verma in connection with alleged irregularities related to the event.

The Central Bureau of Investigation is also probing alleged irregularities in the hiring of Swiss firm Event Knowledge Services (EKS) as Common wealth Games's technical consultant.

Common Wealth Games were the live example of corruption prevailing in India and in the government. The height of corruption if someone wants to see then its the CWG games that took place in india last year. They have saved crores of money in their pocket and did nothing to maintain the country, you can see the toilets were not made properly and the hygienic conditions were awful.

Yes you are right! Common wealth games are the true and recent example of the prevailing corruption in india and in indian politics. If we talk about the disastrous corruption done by any politician then it could be the Minister of Bihar named Madhu Koda who has done the crores rupees scam in his one year tenure. Apart from him one of the prevalent example is CWG games.

It has been done. Money wasted in bulk. Now when we can't extract it back we can only repent.
Also, govt. took a lot of time in taking action against the committee. This would set bad example for other corrupt people and they would remain fearless.

i do not know if world is aware of the corruption and malpractices of gov officials and organizing committee of the commonwealth games, but we now have realized that no gov official can be trusted upon and india is not yet ready to organize such huge events. not that it is incapable of organizing or furnishing world class infrastructure in and around the venue, but its our gov officials who are not civilized enough to keep their minds away from looting money.

Its not only about common wealth games. Corruption prevails every where. Yes, it is the fact that crores and crores of money have been gone in to the pockets of the politician leaving the common wealth games a mere tragedy and the picture of india was displayed like a poor country which could have been improved. but its all because of the corruption persist in the system all that happened.
