India's Western contact has also led to the introduction of the modern communication system which has brought about revolutionary changes. The communication system brings the brings the world closer and contributes to the diffusion of skills, knowledge, values, etc. within a limited span of time. The modern communication system included the introduction of post and telegraph services, telephone, radio, television, internet, e-mail, information technology etc.

The transportation system has also been revolutionised. Roadways, waterways, airways have made tremendous progress. In fact, sapce is conquered and people have regular contacts. The whole world appears like a "global village" now. The expansion in the technological means of travel and transport and increase in the number of circulation of the newspaper as forms of media exposure, are directly associate with cultural modernization. But in India this has resulted both in modernization and traditionalism as it has also contributed to horizontal unity of castes and other traditional groups activities.

The process of modernization hinges on the phenomenon of mass communication. The development of mass communication (including the newspapers, periodicals and magazines, T.V, radio, telephone, movies, computer, e-mail, internet, etc.) is an important means of spreading modern ideas at a faster rate. The function of mass media is to open up to the large masses in society, new information, new thoughts, new attitude and new aspiration which lead them to a new achievement. "Communication is the device that can spread the requisite knowledge and attitudes quickly and widely in the society.
