Recently a very significant step has been taken by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in Delhi to deal with the pollution emitted by the industries and factories. The board has begun to collect online data on the compliance status of 1320 out of 2800 industrial units across the country. 920 of those 1320 units have already set up the censor-based monitoring devices and another 400 units have already moved towards zero liquid discharge (ZLD) system in which the entire water is not wasted rather reused. The Board is seriously concerned about the growing level of water pollution emitted by the highly polluted industries and the idea of setting up the real time censor based monitoring devices would help immensely in having a controlled eye on the pollution, the Board aims to deal strictly with the polluting industries. Besides this, the Environment ministry has also made it mandatory for the new textile, tannery, chemicals, distillery, pesticides, dyes and pharmaceutical units to go for ZLD system as soon as possible. The government will be sending SMS Alerts to those industries whose pollutant parameters are found to be exceeding the prescribed limits for than 15 minutes at a stretch. This is indeed a great idea initiated by the Pollution board until unless these industries and factories would be dealt strictly they would keep on emitting pollution and further making the rivers highly polluted.
