I wonder, if Patriotism is every one’s business or not? To be frank, the answer is “No”. Kings of ancient India were fighting with each other, till the advent of the English East India Company. Even great emperors failed to accomplish the idea of the so called “Bharat Varsha” (Indian Empire) & the common man cared to mind his own business. Patriotism displayed occasionally by subjects was directed to their own principalities of residence.

Under the British rule, Indian youngsters were sent to Britain for higher studies, so that they could be trained as middle man between the common man in India and the British authorities. The idea of patriotism which led to the formation of free young India through nationalist movement came from those students. Nevertheless to say, they were wards of rich and effluent Indians of those days. Very few had come to these positions by hard work due to lack of opportunities.

For a good politician to emerge in today’s Indian scenario, it is inevitable that he has to be a financially independent individual so as to satisfy his basic needs, able to support his family himself. While this tenure in completed, he has to train himself in his career, contribute towards the society and understand the strength, weakness opportunities and needs of the society so as to frame proper policies.

i think patriotism comes in when there is need of the hour. people do not tend to be patriotic just for the sake of it. only when conditions are sensitive one stands up to be a patriot, but these days thats just not enough. one needs to be capable of doing things which can be effective. its power to do something which is necessary to be a patriot these days.

I am absolutely agree with your thoughts Tiger... when there is a need of an hour then only people wake up and fight for the country until then they are busy sleeping and busy in their work.. :)

1857 was the time when people realized the need of getting a free nation. Under the leadership or you can say influence of Mangal Pandey the first fight of freedom got its way from meerut and lots of people were then involved in it. People do not usually realize the need to fight until they find water level above their heads.

Wake up......

i think some times we get to late to wake up and fight for our rights,
but thing should not be like that, we must aware of things around us earlier when they get worst, we must take some action earlier...

I agree with Sumit Tiwari,we must be aware of the issues in our country. At the time of necessity we must be ready to serve the nation. However long lectures on Patriotism do not help and we should be aware of things around us before hand.

The birth of Patriotism cannot be said to be born only after East India Company came to India. There is no doubt that in earlier times, the rulers fought between themselves and this was solely to save their own territory from being taken away by others. This is also patriotism. Patriotism means love for the motherland. Indians have always been great patriots and some of the examples are Rani Lakshmi Bai, Chatrapati Shivaji, the Rajputs etc. Patriotism is innate in the hearts of everyone born in the Indian soil.

Patriotism is love for ones motherland and this was born when India came into existence thousands of years ago. India is a nation that gave birth to many patriots who had sacrificed their lives for their motherland. The rich history of India portrays the picture of patriotism in India which was there even before the British invaded India.

I don't think that patriotism came only with the advent of British. Even though the kings of ancient India fought amongst each other there was never a doubt in any of their minds that they were all Indians. Don't you remember all the Rajputs united under Pritviraj Chauhan to fight against the muslim invasion? That they were defeated because of black sheep who valued ego more than his mother land is another issue.
