Are women responsible for rape?

Many a times it has been argued, that women invite rape. By wearing Western/revealing dresses, or by mixing in with guys, or by going out alone to a secluded place etc.

What do you think? Should women carry all the responsibility for making sure they are not raped? Should women be covered from head to toe and locked up in their homes, so that they are not raped?

Do you see any merit in this argument?

    Nopes!
If I get drunk and punch someone, who is to blame? The booze or myself? Of course I am to be blamed in this case. People who argue that women invite rape by wearing revealing clothes have lost their sense of morality. Who the hell are they to decide what women should wear? India is still a free country.

No! We live in India and not in a lawless state.

    Absolutely not!!!

This is completely nonsense.. woman must carry themselves with grace rather than wearing revealing clothes but just because wearing short clothes or locked up at home cannot save them from getting raped.. its all in the head of a man that force him to take the indecent step.. :x

Men and women both are equally responsible for rape cases.. women should not wear revealing clothes in public or at such places where there is isolation.. women are the creator and deestructor of tehir own destiney.. they should be sensible enough that what they should wear and at which kind of places..

That is completely untrue. If somebody have the intention of rape, they will do it to anyone at anytime they get the chance. They choose their victims based on how vulnerable they are, not what they have worn.

We say that India is adopting the western culture and people are becoming modern from every aspect and even in their thoughts. If it is so then how can a woman be blamed for inviting rapes by wearing western attire. It is sad but true that the mentality of Indian men are still the same and they think themselves to be more powerful and the main cause of rape is the male attitude to show their masculinity. Women are not to be blamed or held responsible for rapes.

No, women are not responsible for men, although many people in our male chauvinist society says that women are responsible for rape. In my opinion, neither women, nor the Government and its machineraies and nor the men are actually responsible for rape rather, it is our society who is to be blamed and held responsible for it. Mostly, rapes are done to gratify the sexual desire and at times also to show the masculinity. However, rapes are the result of gender discrimination that exist in our society.

Utter nonsense!! Western culture has nothing to do with it. Women should dress as they desire -It is their birthright! No Indian should propagate dress code for women. However, if women should dress provocatively in dangerous neighbourhoods, where even good men dare not tread, it is their fault. It's a big shame that men have stopped helping women in distress in buses and trains, then these men are cowardly and not proud Indians.

I dont think that western dresses are REVEALING ones (atleast jeans and a T-).. If this is to be supposed by everyone present here then i think men should also wear traditional dresses like Kurtas , Dhotis .. Lungis .. Payjamas... in their everyday life ... because i've seen many of them being sexually harassed too... its not a taboo...

I would also accept the fact that women can attract such a crime over them by indulging in any unethical act, Being tender with any Tom Dick or Harry or an unreliable guy is their own choice for safety and baseless to debate about. Also she is responsible if her relationship is not canonical.
