According to Ayurveda curd has sweet as well as sour property and leads to the increase in Kapha Dosha in the human body. It is a fact in Ayurveda that during night the kapha Dosha is predominant thus consuming curd at night would lead to more generation of kapha Dosha. Features of Curd according to Ayurveda Amla paka rasam grahi guru ushnam dadhi vatajit | meda shukra bala shleshma pitta rakta agni shopha krut || this means that curd is sour in taste and hot in efficacy, it takes long time to digest further it leads to fat increase in the body, strength. Kapha, Pitta and off course digestive power. It is believed in Ayurveda that whenever there are pains, inflammation or welling in the body curd must be avoided because it would worsen the inflammation and if the curd is sour it would have severe impact. Now sour curd should not be taken by making it hot, not at night time, spring and monsoon seasons. Although sour curd mixed with honey, ghee, sugar, amla and green gram is beneficial in relieving in difficulty in urination (Dysurea) and indigestion. But one should always try to avoid taking curd at night time as it leads to increase in Kapha Dosha. There are people who just cannot avoid curd even at the night so for those die-hard lovers of curd, they can take curd by adding a small pinch of black pepper powder or fenugreek powder these combinations would aid all kinds of stomach pain too caused by indigestion. Mixing sugar and drinking curd in the night mean is a big NO! Buttermilk happens to be the best alternative of curd one may take it at night because it helps in clearing the channel and chucks mucus secretion.
