A crowded and congested city with nearly 1.5 million citizens but quite famous for the symbol of Love; The Taj Mahal! This city flourished under the Mughals Empire especially in the times of Mughal emperor Akbar and his successor Jahangir. After the reign of Aurangzeb; son of Shah Jahan, the city Agra began to disintegrate. It passed through the phases of varied invaders. After the Britishers took the charge of the city, a much appreciable work was commenced to renovate and repair the damaged Mughal forts and building; by the British Governor General Lord Curzon. Taj Mahal is the central attraction of this city. However there are other remarkable places to visit such As Agra Fort, Fatehpur Skiri, Akbar’s Tomb, Etmad-ud-Daulah’s Tomb. The city is crowded and not much clean but it is truly a splendid experience to visit and watch the symbol of Love! The outer premises of Taj Mahal are always surrounded by hawkers and tourist guides. The best places for shopping in the city are Agra marble emporium, cottage industry, Cottage Industries Exposition, Ganeshi Lall and Son, Kohinoor, Oswal Exports and Subhash Emporium. Agra is famous of its sweetmeats ; Petha and Peda.
